Jorhat, 15th October, 2019: Spring Valley School, Jorhat organized a
cultural show in aid of the flood affected people of Majuli. . The programme was organized by the Students of class IX and X and supported by all other students. A general meeting was organized on this occasion and Mr. Praphulla Baruah, the principal of the school presided over the meeting. The honourable Chief Minister of Assam Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal was the chief guest of the programme. The school authority felicitated Mr Sonowal with a ‘Fulam Gamocha’, a traditional ‘jaapi’ and a ‘xorai’. Many other local dignitaries were also invited to the programme. In his speech, Mr Sonowal praised the organizer for organizing such a wonderful programme. He also urged the people of Assam to come forward for helping the flood affected people. The cultural programme was started with a chorus performed by the students of class X. A Bihu Dance was performed by the students of class IX, which was admired by all. Besides these, many other cultural programmes such as dance / song performance, poem recitation etc were performed by the students. A one act play “Majuli” was performed by a group of students of class VII and VIII. The main attraction of the show was the heart-throb of Assam Zubeen Garg. He enthralled all the gatherings with his majestic performance. He also urged everyone to provide a helping hand towards the flood affected people. People from all over the city came to enjoy the programme. The tickets for the show sold in advance and an amount of Rs. 35000/- was collected. Besides this, many teachers, non-teaching staff, students as well as their parents individually donate for this great cause. The entire amount was sent to the Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund. At the end, the vote of thanks was given by Mr. Pranab Borah, the president of the managing committee of the school. People praised the organizer for taking such a wonderful step for helping the flood affected people. The show was ended with the singing of National Anthem.
