Your contribution

Senior Web Developers and Designers work closely with a number of people including:
 Working in multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams
 Reporting to a Manager on a regular basis
 Regularly consulting with Business Analyst, Systems Administrator and Web Services team
 Corresponding with Communications and Public Engagement team members and colleagues
 Regularly interacting with business areas requesting development and technical solutions for online products
and services
 Liaising with relevant internal and external online service providers
 Provision of technical support and advice to senior management.
 Consultation and technical advice with staff in other departments and contributing agencies for whole-of-
government web architecture and application solutions.

Your role
The Senior Web Developer, AO6 is a role in which you will:

Specific responsibilities of a Senior Web Developer and Designer (AO6) are:


 Lead the design and development of web-based applications which support online service delivery.
 Support web developers or contractors in the development, management and maintenance of large scale
customer-centric web sites that deliver both static and dynamic content in a content-managed environment, in
accordance with relevant standards.
 Give advice to management on appropriate technologies for the delivery of services online via the internet.
 Provide design services for websites and web applications
 Work with client groups to outline objectives, requirements, timelines and responsibilities for web-based
projects.
 Develop project plans, user requirements, functional and technical specifications, reports, policies, standards,
procedures and other documentation as required.
 Support knowledge sharing with team members and colleagues, and contribute to continuous improvement
initiatives including, but not limited to, periodic updates to local work instructions and online publishing
procedures and processes.

 Senior Web Developer and designers (AO6) within Corporate Services will also:
o Lead the design, development and implementation of content and presentation templates, and
workflows for the department's content management system.
o Represent the agency at whole-of-government meetings relating to web development, design and
technical aspects of online service delivery.
o Implement routine maintenance schedules and reports for existing sites and applications.

Technical Capabilities

A Senior Web Developer (AO6) will require the following essential technical capabilities to work effectively in the role:
 Advanced web programming (eg. HTML, PHP, CSS, Javascript, Perl, XML, XSL, jSON)
 Understanding of web application development.

 Understanding of search engine optimisation.

The following essential technical capability is also required for Senior Web Developer and Designers in Corporate

The following desirable technical capabilities will assist the Senior Web Developer and Designer to work effectively in
the role:
 Production workflow

What we are looking for

Senior Web Developers and Designers have no formal financial or human resource delegations. However, it is
advantageous for officers to have an understanding of:
 Organisational structure, the functions and business of the department and department’s divisions
 Whole-of-government and departmental online and information management policies and procedures
 Departmental communication and online priorities and initiatives
 Understanding of the Queensland Government Consistent User Experience (CUE) and QGov Online
standards and policies.
