Strategy & Policy Analyst within the Secretary General’s Cabinet, Policy Advice Office.

*This position is linked to the temporary nature and carries, in principle, no expectation of renewal. Any potential
subsequent extension will be subject to the terms of the Organization’s Staff Manual, to satisfactory performance and to
the return of the concerned Staff Member to the post.

Tests/interviews in connection to this selection procedure will likely take place approximately 2 weeks after the deadline
for applications. Applicants are kindly requested to plan their availability during this period accordingly, in case they are

Selected candidates will be expected to report for duty approximately one to two months after receiving an offer of
employment at the latest.

This selection exercise may be used to generate a reserve list of suitable candidates that may be contacted to address
Organization's potential staffing needs in the future.

INTRODUCTION OF POST
The Assistant Strategy and Policy Analyst works under supervision of the Strategy and Policy Advisors and the Head of
Policy Advice to assist in developmental and strategic research and analysis on matters relating to the structure, activities,
internal and external events, and development of organizational issues in support of INTERPOL mission, operational
activities and/or senior managerial decision-making processes and, in addition, contributes to the further development of
strategic analysis as a vital law enforcement support tool.

The Assistant Strategy and Policy Analyst assists in providing extensive, cogent, complete and timely support for senior
management’s missions, visits, conferences and bilateral meetings, which includes but is not limited to, assistance in the
preparation of speeches, briefing materials, supplemental research, threat assessments and position papers.

PRIMARY DUTIES

DUTY 1/Mission 1

He/she assists in drafting/preparing speeches, presentations, talking points, statements, official correspondence, and
other strategic documents for public use/dissemination for the INTERPOL Secretary General including:
1. To research and draft speeches, statements, official correspondence and other strategic documents for public
dissemination, also in the context of statutory and major international events/meetings (including Head-of-
state/Ministerial level meetings).
2. To perform analysis making maximum use of open-source data, academic and specialized journals, internal
publications and resources, and other sources to perform research, gain a comprehensive perspective and
understanding of the relevant issues, and analyze trends, current events and geopolitical/diplomatic
developments within the framework of the Organization’s mission and strategic aims and objectives.
3. To liaise with officials both inside and outside the Organization to ensure the correctness and proper context of
the information used for the above purposes.
4. To assist in the development of and applying new strategies and methods for analysis and dissemination, allowing
delivery of timely and relevant strategic analytical products.

DUTY 2/Mission 2

He/she assists in preparing briefing materials in support of the senior management’s official missions, visits, conferences
and bilateral/multilateral meetings with senior government and law enforcement officials, other international
organizations, non-governmental organizations, and private-sector representatives. This covers:
1. Providing the best possible support to senior management, during official missions, visits, conferences and
bilateral/multilateral meetings, through assistance in the preparation of concise, accurate, and comprehensive
briefing materials that provide the proper context for both internal projects and external developments.
2. Liaising with officials both inside and outside the Organization to ensure the correctness and proper context of
the information used.
3. Independently and proactively keeping abreast of both internal and external policies, projects, initiatives, and
developments in order to be able to provide comprehensive and valued-added support to the unit’s Advisors.

DUTY 3/Mission 3

The post holder helps produce analytical reports and assessments on various organizational issues related to the
structure, scope, and nature of the Organization and/or criminal activities in support of decision- making and priority-
setting by the INTERPOL General Secretariat on the following areas.
1. To apply various strategic and developmental analytical skills and methods, and apply any technique/develop
systems to accomplish the objective.

2. To assist in conducting feasibility studies and write reports, assessing whether and under what conditions a
proposal for analytical assistance is feasible, and draw up project plans for analytical support.
3. To assist in the collection of information and sometimes assume responsibility for collection of information.
4. To deliver first drafts of analytical written products (containing inferences and often recommendations) in printed,
digital or oral form, ranging from regular oral briefings to complex written products, often resulting in new insights
that have a major effect on the understanding and interpretation of the subject matter.
5. To develop and maintain contact networks, both within the INTERPOL structure and with external organizations
in their capacities as partners, sources of information or clients (see further under working relationships).
6. To continuously review, evaluate, research and analyse a wide variety of specialist periodicals, journals, academic
research papers, organizational planning reports, policy documents, as well as sources on the Internet and
provided by commercial databases, according to project needs or assigned areas of subject specialization, in order
to keep abreast of developments in the fields studied.
7. To assist in conducting reviews and ad-hoc studies on the Organisation’s internal processes and activities, and
produce assessments and recommendations.

DUTY 4/Mission 4

The post holder assists in the development of the corporate planning cycle and appropriate processes comprising strategy
formulation and execution, preparation of governance bodies and strategic management meetings management meetings
(Executive Committee (EC), General Assembly (GA), Strategic Management Board (SMB)) and follow-up of relevant
decisions:
1. To assist in the agenda-setting, proceedings and follow up implementation of Executive Committee and General
Assembly sessions.
2. To assist in drafting and reviewing statutory documents to be submitted to the Executive Committee and General
Assembly sessions for decision, discussion or information.
3. To assist and provide support to the Chair(s) of Executive Committee sub-committees in their reporting function
to the EC.

DUTY 5/Mission 5

Performs other tasks, such as assisting with administration, deemed appropriate by the incumbent’s superior among
which:
1. To perform, with a minimum of supervision, all other duties as may be directed by the hierarchy and maintaining
close professional relationships with other senior management.

REQUIREMENTS

WORKING CONDITIONS

 Remuneration for appointment on contract: Salary scales of all duty stations of INTERPOL can be found at
https://www.interpol.int/What-you-can-do/Careers/Vacancies. The starting point is step 1 and one additional step will
be granted for every 3 years of fully relevant experience. The salary scales of INTERPOL’s officials are adjusted at least
once per year (more under exceptional circumstances) on the basis of the methodology used for the calculation of the
Purchase Power Parity (PPP).
 The successful candidate may be offered appointment on a higher step depending upon professional background and

 The incumbent may occasionally be required to work occasional overtime based upon workload and to go on missions.

In compliance with INTERPOL’s Confidentiality regime the successful candidate will have to undergo a security screening according to the clearance
