ECON 112 – MANAGERIAL ECONOMICS
First Semester AY 2021-2022

REFLECTION PAPER FORMAT

A. PREPARATION.  Topics may be chosen freely by the student. (Module 1 to 15)

B. WRITING. Your paper should consist of the following:

1.  A title page which includes the following:

a. Centered at the top portion of the page, information which include

i. South East Asian Institute of Technology, Inc.
ii. College of Business Education
iii. ECON 112 – MANAGERIAL ECONOMICS
b. Centered in the middle of the page, a block of information which provides

i. A title.  You may create your own title.

c. At the bottom right corner, create a second block of information providing

i. Your name, Year&set
ii. The date submitted

2.  Your 3-5 pages of writing should contain the following five sections. Address
the questions in essay style, do not just answer questions. You should begin
each section with these headers as a label:

a. Summary:   Summarize the material to which you are reflecting. Do not

merely repeat the text. DO NOT COPY PASTE!  Should you feel the need to
selectively use quotations from a material, put them in quotes and follow the end of
the sentence with a parenthetical citation (e.g., Bishop, 2017). Failure to cite your
material constitutes plagiarism and will result in an ungraded paper.

b.  Critique:  Critically analyze the material to which you are reacting. Note, critique does not
mean simply saying something negative about the text. Your analysis should address issues
such as one or more of the following:

* Does the writer/producer present these ideas fairly or are they slanted? How so?

* What are the strengths of the content of this article? What are its weaknesses?
* What could be added to this material to make it better or more complete?

c. Meaning: All papers will devote a paragraph to this question:

What does this material tell us about what it means to be human?

d. Reaction:  In two or more paragraphs, give your personal reflection to this material. Your
reflections could include any or all of these points:

* Did you like the reading? Dislike it?  Explain.

* What did you find surprising about the reading? What angered or delighted you? Explain.

e. Application: All papers should conclude with a paragraph addressing this question:

How does this material relate to your own life experience? Explain.

C. WRITING MECHANICS. Common mistakes that students make on reflection papers

include:

1. Paragraphs that are too long: If your writing changes subjects, you probably need a
new paragraph.

2. Incomplete sentences: Complete sentences have both a subject and a verb. Good
clues that you have written a fragment include starting sentences with "But, And,
Meaning that…"

3. Improper punctuation: These include commas, apostrophes and hyphens.

4. Use of personal pronouns:  "You, I, we, us" belong in the opinion section where you
are relating personal opinions, not in the summary or critical analysis sections.

5. Spelling: If you are unclear about the spelling, look it up!

6. Papers must follow class requirements, one side of the page without borders but with
standard margin and in 2 spaces (Arial 12), and Use short bond paper. Failure to do
so will result in a 1-point deduction from your score for every violation of the
requirements due to improper format.

D. SUBMISSION AND GRADING. Your papers are due as scheduled unless instructed otherwise.
Late papers will NOT be considered.
