The vision of ASGL is for students to have an impact on the world.

Whether it's by exploring different

cultures or getting involved with your community. ASGL has paved the way for many students to
sharpen their leadership skills. This is by taking action or being involved in clubs that help develop one's
character. Many students including myself have grown in this school with the help of the teachers/staff.
Being involved and ready for change is part of this role.

A global citizen to me is my older brother, he has demonstrated many traits such as being reflective. He
didn’t let his weaknesses stop him and always worked hard to become the best version he can of himself.
He is open-minded when it comes to solving situations he has been in. Despite not having a good
childhood he was always determined to give me what he never was able to have when we were younger.
He’s always caring for my siblings and me, always pushing us to do better. My brother has never given up
on me and always tries to push me to become a better person.

When I first moved to ASGL I didn’t really know much about the world. I first started by taking Korean
1, this class taught me a lot about a different culture other than my own. I learned different mannerisms
but similar things Korean culture and my culture had in common. As time went by I started getting
involved with clubs and sports such as volleyball. My older brother would support me and buy me the
equipment I needed for this sport. I also volunteered for the cause of my community which taught me
ways I can help others. All these activities helped me become the person I am today. That person is
someone who is involved with others and takes on tasks I normally wouldn’t have done. This has made
me want to explore more with different communities. As I grow older I’m intrigued with the number of
different cultures there are. I hope to travel around the world when I’m older, but if it’s not possible just
exploring different parts of the city of Los Angeles helps with gain knowledge.

As I grow older and plan to go to college, I want to continue my part as a global citizen. I want to
interact with others and learn more about the world. My older brother has helped me with learning new
things. He has always been supportive of college and what major I want to go in. He gives me advice and
teaches me about different majors. I believe college is somewhere you can grow because it’s completely
different from high school. I want to be able to help others and continue to learn more about others.
Communicating with those around me and being open-minded to different environments I might be put
in. If I wouldn’t learn this in high school, I wouldn’t have been able to express myself the way I already
do. Volunteering helped me gain confidence in participating for the benefit of the community. I believe if
I wouldn’t have volunteered I wouldn’t have ever stepped out of my bubble. Joining clubs and sports has
helped me work in a team and be considerate of others. These things have helped me sharpen my
leadership skills.

My brother has taught me many things, including being a good global citizen. It’s been a blessing to have
someone who’s always pushing me to be better and do better. I believe it’s important for many students
around the world to become global citizens because they’ll have the opportunity to gain knowledge about
things that happen around the world. It’ll also help with the ignorance many already face due to the lack
of exposure they have. Being a global citizen requires wanting to become knowledgeable and gain
leadership skills.
