Aralin Kalikasang Handog: Pahahalagahan

Kailan tayo gigising at mababahala?

Dating Paraiso

LESSON
When you are making a stand based on informed opinion it might be agreeing or against it. Therefore,
in making a stand you must consider the following concepts or techniques on how to make a stand based on
any issue.

1. Get straight to the point.

You must say directly what you want to say.

2. Avoid being bias.

You should be equal, not that you are not agreeing because you are upset or you only want it.

3. Know your facts.

You must consider the truth, and also if it is right or wrong.

4. Be respectful in giving opinions.

You should still be polite in giving opinion so as not to offend someone.

Study the situation and analyze the opinion formed. Make a stand based on the opinion.

Eliza is 11 yrs. old and 5th among the ten

children of Mang Dolpo and Aling Iska. Her
family lives beside the riverbanks. Their source
of living is from the junk they collect. Eliza
works underpaid to Mrs. Dalia as a vendor in
the market.

OPINION:
I believe due to poverty, at an early age, Eliza is already working to help her family.

POSSIBLE STAND

1. I agree with Eliza what she is doing, because being a good child, she should help her parents to get out of
poverty.
2. I don’t agree with what she is doing because every child has the right to education. It is not the child’s
obligation to work for the family.

SCIENCE
LESSON

Have you ever wondered what is friction and what is force? How do we relate them in our
day-to-day activities? Since your childhood you might have often come across the term “friction.”
One of its best examples is the slowing down of the vehicle on the road during the rainy season.
Friction is a natural phenomenon that occurs when there is contact between two objects. When
there is friction, there will be a loss of energy. Friction occurs due to the roughness of the rubbing
surface. During Friction, the molecules in the surface will interact with each other. The force of
friction will depend on the material of the rubbing surface. It also depends on the speed or intensity at
which two surfaces come into contact with each other.
What is Kinetic Friction?
Kinetic friction is defined as a force that acts between moving surfaces. A body moving on
the surface experiences a force in the opposite direction of its movement. The magnitude of the force
will depend on the coefficient of kinetic friction between two materials.
Friction is easily defined as the force that holds back a sliding object. The kinetic friction is a
part of everything and it interferes motion of two or more objects. The force acts in the opposite
direction to the way an object wants to slide
If a car stops, we apply brakes and that is exactly where the friction comes into play.

Kinetic friction occurs between moving objects, that is, when one object moves on another
object. A good example is when you ride a bicycle on a road. The wheels of the bicycle move on the
road. The bicycle will slow down until it comes to a halt.
APPLICATION OF FRICTION IN OUR DAILY LIFE
1. Walking - Without friction between the shoes and the ground, you cannot walk properly. If
there is no friction, all of us would be sliding around without any control over ourselves. While
walking, you are pushing your foot back as you try to step forward. Friction holds your shoe to the
ground so you can walk around.

2. Driving - While driving vehicles and riding bicycles, friction occurs between the wheels of
the vehicle and the surface over which the vehicle is traversing. The coefficient of friction determines
the “stickiness” between two objects. If the friction is zero, the vehicle would fail to move forward. It
is only because of friction that we are able to stop our vehicle.

3. Writing - All of us write using either pen or pencil in our daily life. The frictional force is
created when the tip of a pen or pencil is brought in contact with the surface of the paper. In the case
of writing with a ball-point pen, some sort of adhesives forces is acting between the ball and ink.
When you start writing with a ball-point pen on paper, the ball starts rolling and the ink is deposited
on the surface of the paper. The rolling of the ball invites rolling friction to come into play.

4. Rubbing of hands - Friction is responsible for generating warmth in your hands. When two
hands come in contact and are rubbed against each other, there is some amount of resistance which
comes into play. However, if you just put your hands together, there will be no resistance, hence, no
amount of friction. The temperature will increase when the molecules move faster. This is why your
hands get warm when you rubbed them together.

5. Lighting matchsticks - The head of matchsticks contains inflammable chemicals. When a

matchstick is rubbed against a rough surface, some amount of heat is generated and this heat is
sufficient for the conversion of red phosphorous to white phosphorous.

6. Skating on ice - Under the skate, the water acts as a lubricant, reducing friction and helping in
the sliding of the skate. By pushing off the ice with a force perpendicular to the skate blade a skater
propels forward.
MATHEMATICS
An expression has no equal sign, there is no definite answer and cannot end up displaying
the value of the variables involved.

Here are examples of expressions.

Word Phrases Symbols

• three times ten divided by five (3 x 10) ÷ 5

• seven added to the product of four and six. (4 x 6) + 7

• the sum of nine and twenty-one diminished (9 + 21) – 14

by fourteen.
• five times seventeen less twenty. (5 x 17) – 20
• ninety-three decreased by fortytwo 93 – 42

Direction: Answer the following questions on a sheet of paper.

1. What are the Mathematical terms used in the phrases?

2. What terms denote addition? subtraction? multiplication? division?

An equation contains equal sign. It shows answer or ends up representing the value of the
variable.

The following are examples of equations.

8 + 7 = 15 or the sum of a number and seven is fifteen

(9 x 2) – 10 = 8 or twice a number decreased by ten is equal to eight

(b-16) +12 = 55 or twelve is added to the difference of a number and sixteen

the sum is fifty-five

2 (c+2) = 18 or twice the sum of a number and two is eighteen

payak at agad maunawaan.
Kawa-kawa Hill and Natural Park
magnilay-nilay at magdasal.
mahalin at pangalagaan.
1. Saan matatagpuan ang Kawa-kawa Hill?
2. Bakit ito tinawag na Kawa-kawa Hill?

1. Pag iisip at istilo sa pamumuhay

2. Paraan ng pamumuhay
3. Wikang Ingles
4. Makabagong sistema ng transportasyon at komunikasyon

Pilipinas at Estados Unidos (fil-American Friendhip Day) na.

Philippine Rehabilitation Act

T.L.E Types of Innovative Finishing Materials
Aside from conducting a survey for the latest trends and customers’ preferences of
finished products, you must also know the types or sources of innovative finishing materials, accessories,
and designs that you can apply to your products.

Finishing materials are used to smoothen the products before decorating. These materials are
used to beautify, decorate, and improve the quality of finished products. An example of this is varnish.
Colored paper twines and ribbon cloths are also used in decorating and wrapping products. Beads and
charms are small accessories of different colors used to make products attractive. Abaca and sinamay
fibers are paper-thin, locally made materials used for wrapping or packaging purposes.

Sources of Finishing
Materials
1.Fillers – These are applied on wood to fill up cracks, holes, and
grooves. There are two kinds of wood fillers:
a. paste filler – It comes from silex, raw linseed oil, and turpentine. It
has colors such as natural, red, or golden oak.

b. shellac – This is a kind of varnish that dries up easily and is not

waterproof. It comes from lac gum diluted in alcohol. Shellac is available in
white or orange color. White paste fillers are used to fill in big cracks and
grooves or wood.

2. stains – The common wood stains used are oil stain, water
stain, and spirit stain which are named after the solvent used. Stains are
sold in different colors and shades. The easiest to apply on wood is oil
stain. The hardest one to apply is the spirit stain because it dries up
easily.

3. paint – A finishing material most commonly used on wood.

Paint prevents moisture on the wood which causes decay. Paint
beautifies wooden objects and makes them easy to clean.

4. 4.varnish – This is a transparent finishing material that comes

from gum, linseed oil, and resin. It is hard and shiny when dry and gives
sheen to the wooden project. Varnish is widely used in furniture and
upholstery making
5.enamel – This is a kind of varnish with color. Powdered color
pigments are mixed with the varnish. It is used on wood that is not
exposed to the sun or rain because it easily fades. There are two
kinds of enamel, gloss and non-gloss. Gloss enamel gives sheen and
has an attractive effect on wood. Non-gloss enamel does not give
any sheen, but it beautifies wood.

6. lacquer – This is another kind of varnish made of melted cotton

tinters, gum, or chemicals. Like enamel, lacquer comes in different
colors.

7. sandpaper – It is made of grits, usually ground silica, flint, quartz, or emery glued to thick paper or
cloth. Sandpaper for wood is called flint paper and for metal it is called emery cloth. At present we
have water proof abrasive for metal. Both are used for smoothing rough surface of objects.

8. glue – It is a paste for wood materials. It is in powder or in cake

form. It is manufactured from fish, animals, and plastic resin.
