Climate change is causing a rise in natural disasters around the world.

Write a report outlining the problems caused by a natural disaster that

occurs in your country. Suggest short and long-term solutions to address

these issues. (describing problems and suggesting solutions).

In southern Vietnam, the areas are near to the equator so the weather is

usually hot and that’s why people in that area suffer from droughts. This essay will

discuss how droughts affected my country as well as suggest solutions for

avoiding them.

Numerous problems are the result of droughts. Firstly, because of being

near the equator, the average temperature in the South of Vietnam is about 33 0C.

Consequently, in the dry season, the water in the rivers is exhausted and not

enough for people’s lives. Moreover, natural disasters can affect farming a lot,

such as plants lacking water. Because of this, they can’t survive so the farmers

don’t harvest and sell them, as a result, the salary of farmers is also affected by

droughts.

For avoiding droughts, there are some suggestions for short-term solutions.

The first solution is water recycling. In some areas, they use the water reclaimed

from many sources and reuse it for agriculture. Additionally, that area has high

rainfall, so the next solution is rainwater harvesting, which is to keep the water

claimed from the rain season and use it in the dry season. For instance, in Mekong

Delta, they use the water that is harvested during the rainy season for farming and

their lives. Because of this, they can reduce the most harmful things caused by

droughts.

After suggesting short-term solutions, long-term solutions are also good

points to prevent the impact of droughts on Vietnam. The best solution is

desalination plants, which is removed salt from seawater. Vietnam has a lot of

coastal areas so that is a possible reason for using that solution to solve the

problems that are caused by droughts. For example, in some resorts that are near

the beach, the hotel managers claim that they use that solution for the swimming

pool.

In conclusion, droughts are extremely affecting the people in southern

Vietnam, which impacts agriculture as well as their lives. That is why we should

have solutions for avoiding some negative effects of droughts on people in that

area, like water recycling and desalination plants.
