EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report is detailed explanation of the poverty reduction project of our module of “leadership
and community development” under the supervision of our honorable professor Mr. Mohsin
Raza. The project is about the reduction of poverty by the help of e-commerce which we did in
an underdeveloped area Shahdara. We have developed small setup with best of our effort. This
report comprises of the details of the whole plan as well as execution of the plan. There were
different issues to be resolved in prospect of the community but seeing the broader view and
trying to touch the basis of origin of every problem we choose financial problem, lack of income
of the community to be developed at first as if the growing generation is given the tools to solve
their issues, then issues would be solved with the help of community themselves as their
involvement is the key to the solution of their problems. We under the guidance of our project
director started with finding the core problems of the community only lack of education. After a
detailed survey and multiple interactions with the people, we came up with the clear view of the
problems being faced by them hence getting them written, we started finding solutions getting
these all converted into execution of the solutions we had made a lot of effort and hard work to
get the desired result. As expected, we were successful in achieving our set goals.

Introduction

This report is about the awareness of e-commerce to the students of matric or intermediate who
are unable to learn it by themselves. The main target of our project will be the areas where there
is much poverty and students after finding nothing to do in their future gets attracted towards the
crime or other stuffs. Our main purpose is to enhance the understanding of e-commerce in our
youth which would ultimately leads towards the reduction of poverty and crimes also. Half of the
population of Lahore and 75% of the tribal districts are suffering from multidimensional poverty.
To support Pakistan’s economy, the Finance Department and the World Bank have proposed a
$300 million plan to boost local economies. The aim of the project is to provide grants to local
population for rehabilitation of infrastructure, monitoring system for service delivery,
development of institutions and mobilization of local population. The project includes
management, monitoring and testing. The project will work with the World Bank in sectors such
as municipalities, primary and secondary education, health, social welfare, construction and
communications and agriculture. According to a joint study by the World Bank and the planning
and development department, Pakistan’s population is suffering from poverty from different
angles. The Lahore’s economy has been severely affected due to Coronavirus pandemic. In such
a situation, it is necessary to involve the local people for improving the economy as in the near
future the pressure on the economy and opportunities in the merged districts will increase. At
present the human development situation in the tribal districts is very bad while the demand for
basic necessities from the tribes is very low. At present the provision of minimum basic facilities
and living opportunities is very important for the tribal districts. Many important projects have
been launched, but there is a need to strengthen institutions at the local level and make them
accountable and making service delivery sustainable and comprehensive. According to the
World Bank Group, there are over 50 million less people living in poverty in present day
Pakistan than there were in 1991. Additionally, the percent of people living on less than a dollar
and a quarter a day fell from 66.5 percent to 12.7 percent. The project was conducted by the
students of “Superior University” Commerce Department under the supervision of the
“Leadership & Community Development” subject advisor “Sir Mohsin Raza.” A group consisted
of 4 students of “5th D” BBA (Hons).

For working on the “Leadership & Community Development Project” we selected some slum
areas of Lahore, Pakistan. Our group firstly visited the slums like Shahdara to meet with their
people, to discuss about their problems and get their views related to our reduction of poverty
project. We received both the negative and positive responses from people. After that we
conducted our second visit in these areas with our instrument which was questionnaire to get
their views about the specific problems of poor people. Then we compile the results of all the
questionnaires in excel to the get the weightage of their problems. The results shows that
different types of problems contain the different weight age but our focus was on those problems
got highest percentage that is poverty and lack of awareness.

Finally, we started making plan to solve the problems which we selected for the project that is to
reduce the poverty rate by giving awareness about e-commerce knowledge to the people. In
which we improve the financial issues of needy people and also provide such things which help
the needy peoples in their basic needs to get attracted towards the e-commerce, improve their
mental ability and make them financially strong. For executed this project we raise the funds
through our personal resources. At last, we achieved our goal by executed our project on 9 DEC,
2021 in --------. We provide them such things which improve the circumstances and also improve
the mental abilities of people so that they would become stable and get the knowledge of e-
commerce and also got to know that how this would affect their life positively. They were very
obliged and thankful to us for such a kind of working. They expressed their feelings by saying
that: “They are very happy that we select their family for our No-poverty project.

1. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL

Further description is given in the phase wise sequence as given below:

a. NEED ASSESSMENT
The need assessment in the target group was the first and most significant aspect of our entire
project. It's a multi-faceted term with a variety of meanings and methods. A needs assessment is
a method for identifying and addressing unmet needs, or "gaps" between present and desired
circumstances, or "wants." To properly define the demand, the difference between the present
and desired conditions must be quantified. A desire to enhance present performance or remedy a
shortcoming might be the driving force behind the requirement.
A needs assessment is a step in the planning process that is frequently used to enhance people,
education/training, organizations, and communities. It may improve and develop a product, such
as training or customer service. It may be a useful tool for identifying problems and determining
the best actions or remedies. Finite resources can be used more effectively if the problem is
clearly identified. Finite resources can be focused toward designing and implementing a practical
and relevant remedy by clearly describing the problem. The process of producing a successful
product that will answer the group's requirements and wants is aided by gathering suitable and
adequate data. Needs assessments are only useful if they are goal-oriented and give specific data
that can be utilized to identify which of the several means-to-the-ends is the most effective and
efficient in obtaining the intended outcomes.
A needs chain model is made up of aligned horizontal and vertical processes that explain and
identify the ultimate performance objective, solutions, and what could affect these solutions. A
performance need is a state of being or a degree of performance that is necessary for satisfactory
functioning.

b. DESCRIPTION OF THE AREA

Slums are found in Shahdara, along Ferozpur Road. These settlements are generally located near
open sewage channels or along the hazardous banks of River Ravi. The majority of people living
within these areas are street hawkers and daytime laborer’s; they earn very little and are not able
to afford medical care or even hygienic food. These slums are formed by low-income
communities that do not have the means to live in proper housing in the city, and they are a by-
product of over population, economic, political and social inequalities as well as of government
intervention. Most importantly, within these areas, social problems such as crime, drug
addiction, alcohol, high rates of mental illness and suicide are seen. These people move from
rural areas of Pakistan towards Lahore, Karachi or other big cities in hopes of attaining a better
life. The reality, however, reveals that many who move into the city have a difficult time
securing employment, and eventually settle in the slum communities as a result.

c. SURVEY OF TARGET COMMUNITY

Within these areas, social problems such as crime, drug addiction, alcohol, high rates of mental
illness and suicide are seen. So, we targeted this area for our project work and took the students
who are free after their matric or intermediate after finding nothing to do for their survival got
indulged in the criminal activities. We choose this area because we wanted to spread the
awareness of e-commerce in these areas where there is high poverty rate and high crime rate
also, as poverty ultimately leads toward the criminal acts.

d. SURVEY RESULTS
after the survey of our targeted community, we got to the result that:
 There is a lack of income in these areas.
 Also, these people are suffering from lack of productive resources for a long-term
survival
 The main and basic issue was also been highlighted which is the unavailability of proper
and productive education
e. EXPLANATION OF CORE PROBLEMS

We found a high population rate, widespread illiteracy, a lack of technical education, nepotism
and favoritism, re-employment, political instability, and a rural-urban divide after analyzing
survey findings. The area's second fundamental difficulty, with the second highest weight age, is
a shortage of cash and credit facilities.

f. ACTION PLAN
During the course of our project, two members of our group travelled to our target neighborhood
and had brief conversations and first interviews with the residents in order to help them define
their need prospects with whom they are not entertained and what their priorities are in this
possibility. We had fantastic interactions with the community's pupils, and the community's
youngsters were also quite supportive. During our visit, we noticed a variety of issues and
analyzed their many fundamental requirements that had yet to be met. We returned home after
spending a whole day with and in the neighborhood. We were more enthusiastic and devoted to
achieving the finest possible results for this project after this effort. first reach out the children or
student who are unable to manage their expenses of education and daily life activities due to
poverty. We will try to reach out maximum to these children and then spread the awareness
about E-commerce which would include the basic introduction about ecommerce and then the
ways to handle it.

PROJECT FINANCING

For development our project plan, we need a room or two on rent to do the setup of classes
where we can teach our targeted population basics of e-commerce and how to pursue it in their
further life. We need approximately 10-12 laptops and we all 4 members will contribute for it
and further we would also look forward for the donations for this small setup of No Poverty
Project.

Executing of the plan:

That day we did something for humanity that would give spiritual satisfaction and gratitude with
our own eyes, so we hope every day was like the day we carried out our project. Before reaching
the target community, we bought all the materials needed to run the project. This includes
laptops, some internet-connected devices, and small facility rooms. We sincerely hope that we
will reach our goal within 30 days. We want to complete the learning process of the target
community within 30 days, or 1 month, so that they can do something for themselves and their
families as soon as possible. We also hope that we can achieve our goals.

PERCEPTIONS/EXPECTATIONS
We intended to reach out to the whole community, but due to a lack of resources and financial
support from the community, we were compelled to focus on a certain group rather than the
entire community. This is where our aims fell short of our expectations, but we are confident in
the degree of pleasure we obtained from solving the concerns of our targeted group or sector in
the community.

SUCCESS RATE OF THE PROJECT

The project was a huge success for us since after it was finished, our target audience was entirely
delighted with our efforts and expressed their gratitude with the highest esteem and honour for
our whole team.
