Impact

The CBUID project combines experiences from


previous and current projects in the upgrading of
informal settlements in the fields of infrastructure
development and management, vocational
training, and employment promotion. These
previous experiences by the partners will favour
the cooperation between local authorities and
stakeholders. The project aims to ensure that local
communities benefit from economic and employment
opportunities, which are availed to them via the
project support measures. The measures include Beheira Textile Factory. ©GIZ/Farida Farag
improved operation and maintenance systems for 15
technical and social infrastructure facilities, technical
and vocational training for 600 unemployed youth
and women, support services for 240 entrepreneurs,
as well as employment of 1000 residents in labour-
intensive infrastructure development and upgrading
of 20 public infrastructure facilities.

GENERAL CONTEXT
The “Towards a Holistic Approach to Labour Migration Gov-
ernance and Labour Mobility in North Africa” (THAMM)
programme draws on a comprehensive approach to labour
migration governance and mobility. It addresses both the
South-South dimension of labour migration and mobility
through regional dialogue and cooperation (ILO-IOM compo-
nents) as well as mobility aspects from North African countries
to Europe (GIZ component).

The overall objective of the Action is to foster mutually benefi-

The center contributes to combat irregular migration and raise awareness on its risks through providing
information on safe channels of regular migration. In addition, the center offers Egyptian youth services
that aim to up-level their skills and potential to find better job opportunities.
