“Embrace Teaching”, a catch phrase highlighted during the Virtual Student
Teacher’s Congress which was participated by different Colleges and Universities in Caraga Region last March 16, 2022 and anchored with a theme: “Embracing Teaching: Growing in Inquiry, Pedagogy and Technology”. It was hosted by Father Saturnino Urios University thru PAFTE Caraga. The said congress aimed to equipped and enlightened the aspiring and future teachers with proper knowledge, skills, passion and values in the realm of teaching. The activity provided students with various coping mechanisms and learning approaches in the new normal set-up.
Dr. Corazon M. Mangubat, Regional Chairperson - PAFTE Caraga welcomed the
participants warmly and actively. Various deans, teachers and speakers shared their thoughts, knowledge and expertise on how to deal with teaching. Dr. Arlyn M. Floreta, Dean - TEP-FSUU explained the rationale of the Congress. She then emphasized that “In order to become a teacher, just like other profession is a choice, and with that choice, we need to hold and fully commit to it whatever it takes”. Subsequently, Dr. Brenda B. Corpuz, National President - PAFTE delivered her keynote address and explained the significance of teaching and encouraged everybody to embraced it. According to her, “teaching is a profession that keeps us forever young, forever learning, and makes us influence generations. Teachers are professionals who have the power to influence”. She discussed also the 4M’s of Teaching (Method, Moment(Time), Material and Manpower) and highlighted that we as teachers must used our time efficiently and effectively in order to come up with a successful teaching strategy. Afterwards, Engr. Orlando Ritchie R. Natonton, Program Coordinator, IE, FSUU shared his knowledge and expertise about the topic “Playing while Learning Designing Technology Driven Game-Based Learning”. The content of the topic addressed properly to the young and aspiring teaching professionals that the integration of technology driven recreational activities or “games” are essential to attain progress in teaching and learning. The morning session ended up with a presentation of the best three segment demonstration (Motivation, Discussion, and Application) participated by the selected student interns from different colleges and universities in Caraga Region. The afternoon session kicked-off with an inspirational message by Dr. Celia D. Andas, VP for Mindanao - PAFTE. Dr. Rita D. Lucas, Dean, School of Education and Liberal Arts (Music and Social Work) - Centro Escolar University tackled the “Teacher Presence and Student Engagement in Blended Learning”. She talked through the importance of teacher presence and student engagement in the Blended Learning. Simultaneously, an open forum was launched to discussed some issues and concerns of the Colleges and Universities pertaining to the topics discussed. Afterwards, a series of research paper presentations was upholded by the selected student interns for evaluation and perception- taking. Indeed, we were so blessed and honored to participate in this prestigious event as we enlightened our minds and thoughts that teaching profession should be embraced and empowered to become a competent agent of change and sharer of knowledge and expertise.
