A.

Number of skittle: 58 red: 12 yellow: 8 green: 8 orange:15 brown: 15

B.

C.
a. Most common was Orange and Brown; Least common were Yellow and Green
b. 12/58= .206= 20.6%
c. ( this is assuming you mean if you were to add 5,000 Skittles to my sample )
Relative frequency of orange and brown is .258=25.8%, so if the sample goes from 58 to
5058 we would have to find 25.8% of the new sample and that would be 1304.964, and that
would be the number of individuals in both Brown and Orange, and if you want we can 1304.964
to 1304.964 because orange and brown are the most common categories, and it ends up being
2609.928 individuals if you add both common categories.

D. No, because if it were a random sample, then we would have very mixed proportions of each
color and there could be a missing color. ( they wouldn’t have same chances of being picked )

E.

P-value= 0.8200

So in conclusion, the evidence is not sufficient to reject the null hypothesis. ( evidence not
strong enough to reject the null hypothesis )

In this assignment, I looked to see if whether or not skittles claim that 20% of all
skittles in a 2.17 ounce "classic" bag of skittles is red. I also answered a couple of
other questions like, What is the most common category and least common
category? What is the relative frequency for red Skittles? And what I used to
solve my inquiries were, P(hat)=success/sample size, and a website called
geogebra.
After completing this assignment, I learned how to calculate p-hat, and

most of all I learned how to use geogebra. I found geogebra to be the most

important tool learned because of the many calculators that I can use for my

future career.

I also can apply the tools and techniques learned from this assignment in

my future career, my career being microbiologist, and future classes like biology

two. I also found some of the material to be puzzling, which was great because I

love a challenge and it pushes my critical thinking skills. To specify, I learned how

to rearrange formulas to my liking based on the question.

More specifically about how I can use the material learned from this class

in other classes is that I can use P-hat and P-value to test null hypotheses that I

create throughout my student career/in classes like ecology. Also this being my

first project in college, I learned a basic format that I can use for my future

classes. I would also like to add that the skittles would be very useful for my

future “FUN” classes.

I would like to add that the math applied here, helped me understand how

statistics is used in everyday life, that being political science, biology, social
experiments, and experiments in general. It really showed me the how

statisticians come up with their answers.
