was able to complete a paper entitled "SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE”.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background

English is an international language. By mastering English well, we will


be able to communicate with other nations in the world. In addition, we will also
be able to add our insight and knowledge for the betterment of our nation and
country, because we will be able to read English literature, listen to foreign radio
broadcasts, and watch other science films. In the end, we can master knowledge
in all fields.

English has rules of writing sentences such as tense. Tenses are important
in English education. If a person wants to master English well, then he must be
able to master good tenses. Among the tenses we will discuss simple present
tense.

 Present Tense or also known as Simple Present Tense is a form of time


used to express actions. Where the Simple Present Tense is used in stating
events that occur today or are a daily habit.

DISCUSSION

2.1 Definition Simple Present Tense

Simple Present Tense is a simple sentence used to describe a daily activity or daily
habit. The present tense also states an act or activity that takes place or occurs at the
present time in simple form.

2.2 Uses of Simple Present Tense

Simple present tense can be used as follows.:


A. It is used to express a habit that is done at a certain time.
Example:
1. I only eat vegetable.
2. She drinks tea at breakfast.
3. He visits my house twice a wee.
B. Used to express an activity that is repeated (repeated actions).
Example:
1. I go to market every morning
2. My parents are always at home on Sunday
C. Used to express a general truth, a general truth
Example:
1. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west
2. The earth is round
3. A week have seven week
4. ice is cold.
5. fire is hot.

D. Used to express an instruction or direction (instructions or directions)
Example:
1. Open the bottle and pour the contents into glass
2. I’ll let you enjoy dinner
E. Used to state unchanged situations (fixed arrangements)
Example:
1. His father arrives tomorrow
2. Our new year starts on the 1st January
F. Used to state with future constructions (with future constructions)
Example:
1. She’ll see you before she leaves
2. We’ll give it to her when she arrives

mengunjungi neneknya setiap hari Jum'at)

2. For The Subject he, She, It:

Subject + infinitive (Verb 1) + s/es

Example : She reads a magazine every morning. (Dia membaca

The simple present tense for positive verbal sentence used is:
1. Use of Subject I, You, We, They:

Subject + do + not + infinitive (Verb 1)

Example : I do not write a letter everyday. (Saya tidak menulis
surat setiap hari)

2. Use of the subject He, She, It:


Subject + does + not + infinitive (Verb
1)

Example: She does not read a magazine every morning. (Dia tidak
membaca majalah setiap pagi)

Description: Negative verbal sentence form, additional "s/ice" in


verbs omitted.

c. Simple Rules Present Tense Ask with Do and Does


The simple present tense rules for the verbal sentence Tanya with do and
does used are: For the subject I, You, We, They :

Do + Subject + Infinitive (Verb 1) ?

Example: Do they go to school everyday? Apakah mereka pergi ke


sekolah setiap hari? Answer : Yes, they do. (Ya)
 
1. For the subject of He, She, It:

Does + Subject + Infinitive (Verb 1) ?

Example: Does She read a magazine every morning ?. (Apakah dia


membaca majalah setiap pagi?). Answer : Yes, She does

Description: Verbal questioning sentences are formed by placing do or


does at the beginning of the sentence so that the addition of "s / ice" to
the verb (infinitive) is also omitted (not needed).

d. Simple Rules Of Present Tense Tanya with Question world

The simple present tense rule for verbal sentences is used with
question words such as: What (what), Where (where), When (when),
Who (who), Why (why), Which (which), How (how), then the pattern of
sentence arrangement is:
1. If the question word used does not ask the subject Where, What,
When, Why, Which, How can be used formula:
a. For subjects I, You, We, They:
Question Word (QW) + do + Subject + Infinitive ?

Example Sentence: Where do you live?. (Where do you live?).


Answer. I live in Jakarta. (I live in Jakarta.)
b. For the subject of He, She, It:

Question Word (QW) + does + Subject + Infinitive ?

Example sentence: What does she write?. (What did he write?.)


answer. She writes a letter. (He wrote a letter)

2. If the question word used to ask the subject, such as Who, then the
formula as is:

Question Word (QW) + infinitive + s/es?

Example: Who always helps your father? (Who always helped your
father?) Answer. My brother always help my father. (My brother
always helped my father)

Description: In this form of question, the verb (infinitive) is


coupled with "s / ice" in accordance with the rules described
earlier.

3.1 Conclusion

Simple Present Tense is a simple sentence used to describe a


daily activity or daily habit. The present tense also states an act or
activity that takes place or occurs at the present time in a simple form.

Simple Preset Tense is used to:

A. State the habits that are done at a certain time. Example: She drinks tea at
breakfeas.
B. Used to express an activity that is repeated (repeated actions). Example:
My parents are always at home on Sunday
C. Used to express a general truth, a general truth that occurs continuously
(general truth) Example: fire is hot.
D. Used to state an instruction or direction (instructions or directions) Example:
Open the bottle and pour the contents into glass

example: She reads a magazine every morning. (Dia membaca majalah setiap
pagi).
C. verbs (infinitive) are generally directly coupled with suffixes "-s"

E. An infinitive verb that ends in the letter "-y" and is preceded by a dead letter
