Train radio systems are used for operational railway communications between stationary subscribers and mobile radio
subscribers, or between mobile radio subscribers. The data radio system provides for continuous data transmission and are part
of on-board units for data applications. The systems are suitable for use on board railway vehicles.
Qualified personnel are persons who, by virtue of their training, experience and the instruction received as well as their
knowledge of the relevant standards, provisions, health and safety regulations and operating conditions, have been authorised
by the person responsible for the safety of the system to carry out the respective necessary activities and are able to detect and
avoid any possible risks.
For your own safety, please follow the safety precautions below:
► Disconnect the system from the supply system before starting the installation work.
► Ensure that installation work is always carried out with the power switched off to avoid injury from electric shock.
► Switch off the power to the system.
► Ensure that the system power cannot be switched on unintentionally and that the system cannot switch itself back on.
► Verify that the power is off in the system.
► Earth and short-circuit the device before installing the cables, including the antenna cable. The protective measures must
be defined for each specific project. The connection must ensure a permanently secure contact.
► Run the device only if the antenna is connected.
► Protect neighboring live parts using suitable coverings and/or isolating barriers or panels to protect against accidental
touching or falling objects.
► Before beginning the installation work, notify the relevant person in charge of the vehicle or an authorized representative
who will be available during the entire installation period.

5.1 General Principles
The general principles listed below are the basic requirements for installing and fitting the connections in railway vehicles. The
cable/line routing will depend on the local circumstances. Special provisions relating to particular vehicle models should be
specified separately for each railway vehicle type, taking these general principles into account.
► Secure all cables against mechanical damage by taking suitable measures (e.g. cable conduits, ducts). Avoid abrasion and
kinks. Anti-kink sleeves or other aids must not limit the movability of the wires inside the cable.
► Use a suitable grommet for drilled holes that wiring passes through.
► Route wiring to prevent interference when other lines are also routed in parallel.
► Fit the supplied plug connectors according to the fitting instructions supplied with every connector. Crimping is generally
used for on-site fitting.
► Route and install wiring in such a way that the dissipation of the expected resistive heat is not impeded and there are no
fire risks for neighboring materials.
► Do not exceed the minimum bending radius and maximum length of cables as defined in Table 4.
► The plug connectors for the rack versions are generally fitted in such a way that the connected lines run upwards away
from the unit when it is fitted in upright position.
► The plug connectors for the box versions are designed as straight connectors.
2 With bigger administration lengths the performance(achievement) being available in the loudspeaker decreases.
In exceptional cases, the PS1 cable can be used with systems having 24 V DC supply voltage. This must be
cleared with the manufacturer in all cases.
IMPORTANT
► Follow the electrical operating conditions and error protection measures in accordance with EN 50155 and protective
measures as per EN 50153.
► Protect the PS1 / PS2 cable with a line circuit breaker. The selection of a line circuit breaker should be decided for the
specific project. Observe the applicable country-specific regulations.
► In the rack versions the cable must be equipped with suitable strain relief which is attached no further than 15 cm away
measured from the terminal strip.
► If litz wire cables are used they must be fitted with suitable splice protection.
5.3 IFOT / IFOT1 Cable (Cable between train radio device and operating device)
► With the standard supply voltage to the operating unit, do not exceed the following maximum cable lengths:
IFOT cable IFOT1 cable
Cable length Not exceeding 29 m Not exceeding 58 m
► In exeptional cases the IFOT cable can be carried through several wagons. A potential equalisation between the wagon is
required in this case. The use is limited to the following both applications:
○ max. over-all length 58m incl. one junction cable
with Harting plugs (straight) 1580.014.20001.B.DE.4
with Harting plugs (angled) 1580.014.20005.B.DE.4
with Tyco plugs (straight) 1580.014.20003.B.DE.4
○ max. over-all length 120m incl. three junction cable and remote powering of MMIS
with Harting plugs (straight) 1580.014.20002.B.DE.4
with Tyco plugs (angled) 1580.014.20004.B.DE.4
Clear the ability and use of IFOT cables with junction cable with the manufacturer.
IMPORTANT
► Note and follow the installation instructions for the connector supplied. Run the connection so that the plug fitted by the
manufacturer is connected to the antenna.
► For fixing the cable we recommend a clamp spacing of 0.25 m.
► The antenna cable must not be bent in the region 35 mm from the plug.
► Do not tie or bundle the MRM jumper with other cables. Lay the jumper individually with sufficient spacing
(recommendation 5 cm minimum spacing).
Installation conditions:
► The train radio devices conform to degree of protection IP 54. Their ambient temperature range is -25 °C to +55 °C.
► Choose the installation site so that unimpeded access is possible for maintenance work.
► Keep the necessary spaces around the device clear as described in Figure 11.
► So that you will not need to remove the device for maintenance work on the heat exchanger block and the heat exchanger
fans, we recommend an additional installation space of 350 mm on the left of the unit.

The antenna mounting base has 4 fixing holes. The following options are available for the installation:
• Mount on a separate flange with integrated stud bolt M10, which is fixed to the roof of the vehicle.
• Mount on stud bolts M10, which are directly and permanently welded onto a metallic vehicle roof.
• Mount with fixing screws which pass through the mounting base and the relevant holes into the vehicle's roof.
To achieve the best conductivity, the evenness of the mating surface must be e= 0.2 mm and it is necessary to ensure the
contact surfaces are absolutely clean.
Sealing:
To avoid corrosion and leaks in the vehicle, the mounting holes must be sealed with sealing rings.

Earthing:
Metallic roof surfaces have adequate conductivity and are usually adequately earthed. If roof areas are non-metallic it is
necessary to separately earth the mounting base of the antenna.
► During installation, ensure the antenna is adequately earthed so that high voltages and currents can be safely discharged
to the earth.
1. Fix the antenna in the middle of the conducting surface using the sealing washers supplied. Comply with the tightening
torque of 15 to 20 Nm.
2. Use a suitable tool to screw on the MRM cable hand-tight to the antenna connection.
3. Protective measures are necessary for the antenna fixing surface. The protective measures must be defined for each
specific project. The connection must ensure a permanently secure contact. Follow EN 50153.
10 Antenna Diplexer
Mount the antenna diplexer in direct proximity to the train radio device. Do not exceed the cable lengths of 0.6 m for the MRM1
and MTR1 cables, and do not exceed the specified minimum bending radiuses as described in Table 4.
