SOP-8 Safety Footwear

1.0 General

This program provides safety-toe footwear for employees

working in environments where foot hazards may exist.

1.1 Safety footwear shall be worn by CABGOC and contractor

employees working in areas that present a foot hazard.
Areas and jobs which require safety footwear should be
determined by the CABGOC supervisor or owner of the
facility in question.

1.2 ChevronTexaco furnishes safety footwear to CABGOC

employees and 90/180 day contract employees who work in
a field environment and are exposed to foot hazards.

1.3 Third party contractors are required to wear safety

footwear in CABGOC facilities when their jobs or work
environment presents foot hazards.

1.4 Visitors to facilities are not required to wear safety

footwear unless they engage in work that presents a
foot hazard. Visitors shall wear shoes or boots with a
leather top that is of a style suitable for an oil
field or plant operation. Visitors must be escorted by
a Company representative.

1.5 The Environment, Safety, Fire and Health Manager is

responsible for determining the brands and models of
safety footwear available from the Warehouse and
ordered through CABGOC's Purchasing Section.

1.6 Any suggested improvements or complaints should be sent

in writing to the CABGOC Services Manager.

2.0 Safety Footwear Criteria

In the development of the safety footwear criteria,

consideration was given to the following shoe and boot
characteristics: chemical resistance, outsole type, height
and shape, heel type, durability, traction and water safety.

2.1 Safety footwear shall meet the requirements and

specifications setforth in ANSI Z41.1 (American
National Standards Institute). Footwear must have
impact and compression strength toe protection and
soles that are slip resistant and chemical resistant.

2.2 No exotic animal skin materials will be allowed as

of footwear in restricted areas (see Section 1.1) or

authorizing payment to the employee.

3.5 Office employees and contractors who do not routinely

go to the field are not eligible for CABGOC furnished
safety footwear.

4.0 Requisition/Purchasing Procedure

4.1 When ordering from the Warehouse:

A completed Material Movement Requisition (MMR) must be

submitted to the Warehouse. It must list the employee
name, employee number, shoe size, etc. and be approved
by the employee's CABGOC supervisor. The Warehouse
will stock one high-top safety boot style and one low-
top safety shoe style.

4.2 When ordering through Purchasing:

4.2.1 Safety footwear will be ordered with a

Purchase Order Request (POR) submitted through the
normal ordering process to Purchasing.

4.2.2 The POR must have complete ordering

information, including the manufacture and style
number. Only CABGOC eligible brands and styles of
footwear can be ordered from the catalogs.

4.2.3 Purchasing will incorporate all purchase

order requests for safety footwear on a monthly basis,
and issue orders accordingly instead of making orders
on an individual basis.

5.0 Replacement of Safety Footwear Procedure

5.1 One pair of safety footwear will be provided every two

years, if needed, to CABGOC and contract employees who
are eligible. CABGOC will provide safety footwear more
frequently if warranted and authorized by the CABGOC
supervisor.

5.2 Before receiving new footwear, the employee, if

requested by their supervisor, shall return the old,
used footwear to their supervisor for proper disposal.
