TOP 10 TECHNOLOGY TOOLS

CODEHS

• Programming is not something that I necessarily enjoy, but this website
has a lot of great and easy activities that will allow students to learn more
about the technology that makes up their lives.
• Computer science isn’t directly related to math, but I think there are a lot
of ways that they could be tied together. It could be used as an extension
activity talking about how to create certain shapes and trying to draw
those shapes with a program. It could also be used as an open option for
something for students to do if they get done with their work early.
BREAKOUT EDU

• I like this website because it turns your content into a game
that will help students be engaged with the lesson. It is also
really great because there are lots of breakout rooms already
created for you to choose from.
• This could be used to introduce a new topic to students based
on their prior knowledge to solve the puzzles. This could also
be used as a review activity before a test.
N C T M I L L U M I N AT I O N S

• I like this website because it has a lot of great interactive tools.
One of the most challenging parts of math can be visualizing
the problem, and these tools can help with that.
• Many of these interactives could be used as extension problems
of the content we are already learning in class or to help
discover the relationship between different parts of an equation.
N AT U R E L A B

we-work/youth-engagement/nature-lab/virtual-field-trips/
• Oftentimes school field trips are limited due to expenses or
other factors, This website is great because it offers virtual field
trips where students can problem find and solve without ever
leaving the classroom.
• This could be used in the classroom to watch the video/explore
the resource to identify and solve a problem that relates to the
content of the course.
NEARPOD

• This is a great resource to make lectures more interesting. You can make
sure students are paying attention and immediately check for their
understanding by seeing how they respond to the question.
• This can be used in the classroom to make a simple lecture a little more
interesting. One of my favorite features is the ability to show student
answers on the board. For example, if you are studying the parts of a cell
you can have students draw the parts of the cell and show a few examples
on the screen.
DESMOS

• Graphing calculators are expensive, so it is great to have access
to a free online calculator. There are also lots of great premade
lessons on lots of math topics; you also have the ability to create
your own lessons.
• This is a great extension activity for the math classroom where
students can more easily explore the relationships between
equations and graphs.
EDPUZZLE

• This resource is great because you can have students watch videos in class or on their
own time and add questions for them to answer. I love the fact that it doesn’t allow
students to skip through the video so it hold them accountable to watching the whole
thing.
• This could be used to introduce a topic that you are going to learn more about during
class. You could assign a video/questions for students to watch for homework so they
come into class with a little bit of prior knowledge.
E X P L A I N E V E RY T H I N G

• This is a great resource that allows students to collaborate
and/or create presentations. When students create content to
present in class, they have a much deeper understanding of the
material.
• This could be used for students to present about different topics
to their classmates. For example, if you are learning about
different parts of the cell, students could get into groups and
each research a part of the cell and present it to their peers.
GEOGEBRA

• This is a great tool that specifically helps with visualizing 3D objects and planes. One of
the hardest parts about 3D objects is visualizing them since they are so hard to draw, but
this website helps alleviate that problem.
• This could be used in the classroom when talking about 3D objects. This is very helpful
in counting the faces, edges, and vertices of an object. It is also helpful when graphing
on a 3D plane.
SCREENCASTIFY

• This is a great resource for both teachers and students to use to
create screen recordings. I really like that it is easy to use and
has a free version.
• This can be used by students to create a presentation about
something to then share with their peers. This can also be used
by teachers to create lessons in sort of a flipped classroom style
or if they are going to be missing class for some reason.
