Corrections to Spreadsheet Modeling & Decision Analysis, 7th ed.

By Cliff Ragsdale

Chapter 2
Problem 13: Solution to problem 13 has two mistakes: (1) The fifth constraint has an incorrect sign in
front of X2 in the mathematical formulation (it’s OK on the graph). (2) The value of the objective function
should be $2104, not $2014. See corrected version below.

13. X1 = number of His chairs to produce, X2 = number of Hers chairs to produce

MAX 10 X1 + 12 X2
ST 4 X1 + 8 X2 £ 1200
8 X1 + 4 X2 £ 1056
2 X1 + 2 X2 £ 400
4 X1 + 4 X2 £ 900
1 X1 – 0.5 X2 ≥ 0
X1, X2 ≥ 0

Problem 26: The problem includes several kinds of data for sedans, SUVs, and trucks, but doesn’t list
them in a consistent order. Sometimes the numbers are in one order, sometimes in another. It would be
better if the numbers were always listed in the same order for consistency (as is usually the case in other
problem statements).
