Topic: Time Management Tips for the PSAT and SAT

Lesson Overview

Today’s lesson will teach students to manage their time while completing the PSAT and SAT. These
strategies can also be applied to the ACT, AP Exams, and other standardized tests. For today’s lesson,
teachers will be asked to show and discuss a video. Students will also receive an informational
handout. Teachers, please plan to make copies for your Hoya Block before class on November 9th.

Opening Session

Distribute the student handout. Ask students to discuss--without divulging any specific test
information--how they feel they managed their time when taking the PSAT. Did they have time to
finish the test? How many unanswered questions were left? Which section was the most challenging
to finish in the allotted amount of time?

Working Session

Play the video for students. Ask the students to discuss the information shared in the video.

Closing Session

Review the student handout and ask students to share any additional time management tips they
may have learned from past standardized tests.
