Gallery Visit Report

I went to the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art on the 25th. I didn't pick all of
these following pieces because they were my favorite, I picked them because they were
the only ones that this museum had. I chose this museum because it was free, so it didn't
have very many art pieces.

1. The first piece is titled Refraction and was created sometime in 2022. The artists of
this piece are Lucza Brewer, Madeline Cassell, and Mia James. The medium of this piece
is a sculpture built out of wire, wood, lace, and video, and the approximate size is 5 by 3.
This piece uses shapelessness with 3D components, which makes it very interesting to
look at. This piece also uses a ton of different textures to give its definition. This piece
was my favorite out of all of them because it was so different and I had never seen
something like it.
2. The second piece is titled Justice and was created sometime in 2021. The artist of this
piece is Hank Willis Thomas. The medium of this piece is mixed media including U.S.
flags, and the size is 39 1/2 x 71 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches. This piece uses pattern and lines to
create its design, but to me, although it uses different patterns it seems simple.
3. The third piece is titled At the twilight's last gleaming and was created sometime in
2021.  The artist of this piece is Hank Willis Thomas. The medium of this piece is mixed
media and the size is 64 1/8 x 110 x 1 7/8 inches. This piece uses pattern in its design by
piecing flags together. It has a lot of different colors which makes the piece pop.
4. The fourth piece is titled Wide Awakes Flag and was created sometime in 2020. The
artists of this piece are José Parlá and Coby Kennedy. The medium of this piece is acrylic
paint on printed textile, and the approximate size is 3 by 5. This piece uses pattern, color,
and lines in its design. I didn't like this piece as much because it wasn't as interesting to
me compared to the other art pieces. 
5. Lastly the fifth piece is titled We're going to talk about it and created some time in
2022. The artist of this piece is Myleka Bevans. The medium of this piece is a sculpture
and for the approximate size, I'm not sure. It filled up the whole room. This piece uses
texture and color to create an atmosphere that looks like you're in the galaxy. This piece
was really fun because it was something you could walk through instead of something
you just look at.
