WHY DOES MENTAL LABOR ACCOUNT FOR A LARGER SHARE THAN

MANUAL LABOR IN TODAY’S WORKING ENVIRONMENT?

I. The developments of industrial revolution 4.0

We live in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, when the definition of every area evolves daily,

and technology has a significant impact on our lives. These advancements have had a

tremendous impact on many aspects of life. As a result, it changes how labor is used in

today's working environment, and the first reason for this is the desire for higher education.

In 2019, G. Popkova, V. Ragulina & V. Bogoviz state that: “In order to preserve

competitiveness, modern human has to obtain education and increase the level of

qualification.” (p.89)

1. Require high education

The least educational need is a high school diploma to apply for a job in several businesses

nowadays. A high school diploma is the primary criteria used to measure a person's

educational level in today's industrialized culture. Some developing countries, as well as

some industrialized countries, require this component. As a result, people who do not meet

the above-mentioned educational qualifications must work in manual labor jobs such as

workers, assistants, handicraft factories, garment factories, or other related jobs—related to

manual labor, which often have barely enough incomes to support an ordinary worker.

Because of the increased understanding of the value and disparity in pay that more and more

individuals invest in their children, the following generation has a higher education level and

a better living. Today's education has caught up with the innovation trend. As a result, it has

offered numerous criteria for people seeking knowledge workers to pick from, such as

college, university, graduate school, etc. It also emphasizes the rise in other percentages. In
today's highly innovative and digitally sophisticated culture, mental and manual labor

disparity will increase even further. So, how does the necessity for a high level of knowledge

present itself?

First, those who desire to have a good quality of life must improve their skills to have more

work options and appealing incomes. For example, after completing a major at the college or

university level, certain businesses will demand different certificates to accomplish that

specific work in a place that hires a buddy or follower. They are pushed to learn new things

every day while studying to become teachers and acquire additional essential certifications to

continue teaching and thrive in a very competitive atmosphere in their chosen industry.

Another example is that English is a required course for students majoring in English to

graduate and work. Nonetheless, many people prefer to continue their education to compete

for a good wage. They learn new languages to work as translators or interpreters, or they

pursue a master's degree to become instructors. In today's culture, this occurs in one area and

many other ones. Knowing a language will give you an advantage in the field of knowledge

in general, and your wage will differ from that of someone in the same career. That is why

people choose higher learning methods, to know and learn more to catch up with the

development trend of the world, so as not to fall behind. This further proves that the

percentage of mental labor accounts for most of the current labor market.

2. Specialized experience in a specific field.

Aside from schooling, specialist abilities in specific subjects are required in many mental

labors. Because Industry 4.0 is a more modern and inventive market economy, education

must consider two factors: cultural and professional levels. Education and post-graduate

degrees in a specific subject are only satisfied in part. Employees must enhance their

professional abilities through self-study, experience, and self-discovery to stay up with the
industry's innovation trend. We cannot claim to have a university degree in our chosen sector;

nonetheless, we are capable of doing all of the duties associated with that industry. Learning

theory must go hand in hand with practice; thus, the degree only provides about half of the

level is connected to the industry. The rest is to experience and learn other essential

certifications of the sector we are pursuing. Some instances of today's intellectual working

class: in business administration, we must grasp both economic knowledge and market

understanding, as well as learn more about leadership thinking, data processing, and so on.

Furthermore, specialized inexperience is essential in businesses such as marketing,

information technology, accountants, physicians, engineers, scientists, police, teachers, and

so on.

3. Tech-savvy required

The level of development of humanity requires that people cannot lack computer technology

skills. Therefore, in 2015, Robinson & Aronica wrote: “At the same time, digital technologies

are transforming how we all work, play, think, feel, and relate to each other” (p.14).

Currently, graduation requirements of universities and colleges are indispensable with MOS

excel, MOS word. Working companies all require employees to be knowledgeable in

electronic technology, which is a very typical requirement compared with the peak

technological development of technology 4.0. Mental labors are the main force for the

company's growth—developing the market economy.

The truth is that knowledge labor, together with technological advancement, is now present in

a substantial portion of the economy. Developed countries, such as China, the United States,

Russia, Korea, and Japan, have the most sophisticated technologies. Because of the quality of

education and the advancement of science and technology, which necessitates a high degree
of human development, these young intellectuals are compelled to embrace technology and

take their own country to the next level—a new height.
