MODULE 4: THE TEACHER AS CURRICULUM IMPLEMENTOR AND MANAGER

Take Action
Activity 1: K to 12: Can We Make a Curriculum Change?
The K to 12 is the current reform in our national basic education curriculum. There are driving forces as well as
restraining forces that affect its implementation. In other words, there are factors that will make K to 12 successes but
there are also factors that will make K to 12 fail.
1. What factors make the K to 12 succeed? Write these on the left column A. You may not fill up all the boxes.
2. What factors make the K to 12 difficult to succeed? Write these on the right column B. You may not fill up all the
boxes.
3. You see that the middle portion is the word equilibrium or balance

E B. Restraining Force / Factor

1. If A is more that B, there will be a successful curriculum change.

2. If B is more that A, there will be an unsuccessful curriculum change.
3. If A & B are equal, then there will be a status quo.

Activity 2: Making Sense of Curriculum Implementation
1. Observe class where the teacher is actually (Visit website, watch you tube for classroom teaching).
2. Describe what the teacher is doing for at least the whole period.
3. Write down your observation based on the following questions:

1. What were the different learners activities?

 Chain notes
 Brainstorming
 Debates
2. What did the teacher do, to make the learners engage in the activities.
 In chain notes, numbered off the class into groups, in this case 1 through 6, and each group received a piece of
paper to begin. The group answered the question, and after 4 minutes they rotated envelopes. The new group
had to answer the question, and then revise/ comment on/ or correct the answer in the envelope. By the last
rotation, they were answering, then examining 5 other answers and seeing what they could contribute to each of
the other answers.
 In brainstorming activity, the teacher pick a question or problem to solve. Make the prompts clear and simple.
Set a time limit. Give all students a chance to express their ideas. Eliminate fear of failures. Tap into individuality
and creativity and write all the ideas down and organize.
 In debates activity, the teacher ensures that each and every student is well-acquainted with the topic
beforehand. Give them enough time to prepare and get motivated for the big day! You can play some games in
the classroom leading up to the debate, and allow the competing teams to play against each other building a
productive rivalry through words. Some of the classroom debate games are as follows: National and
International Topics, School and Local Issues, Role Play Debate, etc.

3. Were majority of the children actively participating? Why?

Yes, the learning activities help them to actively participate by working in a team that provides learners with
opportunities to articulate ideas and understandings, uncover assumptions and misconceptions, and negotiate with
others to create products or reach consensus. These learning activities enable students to discover deeper meaning in
the content and improve thinking skills.
4. Did the teacher control most of the activities?
Yes. By engaging in the activities (Teacher and Students), the teacher ensure that he/she control most of the activities by
leading, responsible for preparing the questions, assigning or organizing a team, give all students a chance to express
their ideas. As I observed, the students are willing to work together with their classmates toward a common goal.

5. Did the learners and the teacher together achieve the desired learning outcomes? Explain?
Yes. The teacher's fundamental task is to get students to engage in learning activities that are likely to result in achieving
learning outcomes. It is helpful to remember that what the student does is actually more important that what the
teacher does.

1. As a future, what would be your response to curriculum implementation as part of curriculum change? Are you
willing to take part in the implementation? Why? Why not? Write your answer in the box.
My Response to Curriculum Implementation
Curriculum is serves as the guide of a teacher in handling many students and without of it, the goal of a teacher is not
measurable. My response of it is I will understand and analyzing the given changes. As a future teacher, I have my role in
handling my students in a creative way. Even there is a change, there’s no one can take part of a teacher because teacher
is ALWAYS A TEACHER. I have the power on how to implement my curriculum. Through giving some activities in my
discussion that help the learners enhance their intellectual skills, as well as their emotional and psychomotor skills. I will
propose an objective that in the end of the lesson, it can be an effective and useful. As a part of curriculum change, I will
be the one to guide my learners on what the knowledge they adopt and learned in a specific time. Because I believe that
a teacher must a curriculars who knows the curriculum, plan the curriculum and implement the curriculum. Even there
are changes happen, still the teacher has the power to make a curriculum into an interactive way of teaching that leads
to a meaningful learning to the learners. And I willing to take part of my implementation because that is a teacher.
