LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET 3

Name of Student: __________________________________________________

Learning Area – Grade Level: ________________________________________

Date: ____________________________________________________________

I. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT
Writing the background of the study and conceptual framework requires much research
and intensive reading. Choosing a proper concept will clarify the flow of your research study. For
this reason, you, as a researcher, really need to be extra careful in making preparations for your
background and concept of the study.

II. LEARNING SKILLS

Generally, at the end of the module, you are expected to explain. Specifically, you are
most likely to exhibit the following competencies:

1. Formulate clearly the Background of the Study and Conceptual Framework (Week-3)

III. ACTIVITIES

A good research paper shows strong points not only in its content and information
but also in its presentation and technicalities. Bear in mind that research writing is a bit
different from other writing activities since it requires accuracy and authenticity. It is an
academic writing that prepares you to become an academic writer and a good researcher.

WRITING A BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The background of the study establishes the context of the research. This section
explains why this particular research topic is important and essential to understanding the main
aspects of the study. Usually, the background forms the first section of a research article/thesis
and justifies the need for conducting the study and summarizes what the study aims to achieve.

A well-written background will provide your study with a context and prompt the readers
to read the rest of your paper. Make your own background of the study by adopting the
templates. Write in a sheet of paper or send a soft copy to your group mates for additional
information and revision then send to your teacher.

Additionally, authors should briefly highlight the main developments of their research topic
and identify the main gaps that need to be addressed. In other words, this section should give
an overview of your study. The section should be organized as:
➢ What is known about the broad topic
➢ What are the gaps or missing links that need to be addressed?
➢ What is the significance of addressing those gaps?
➢ What are the rationale and hypothesis of your study?

WRITING A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

A conceptual framework is an analytical tool with several variations and contexts. It can
be applied in different categories of work where an overall picture is needed. It is used to make
conceptual distinctions and organize ideas.

ACTIVITY 1. Practice Makes Perfect!

Instructions: Fill in the necessary information of your background of the study.
Parts of the Background of the Study

1. Introduction 3. Felt need of the Researcher

2. Legal Basis 4. Significant of the study to the respondents
Guide Questions:
1. What possible learning you gain in this activity?
2. Do you find the activity challenging? Why?
ACTIVITY 2: I Can Make It!

Present an example and a conceptual framework of your study. Write in a sheet of paper or send
a soft copy to your teacher. Follow the format or example above.
Process Questions:
1. What are the difficulties you encountered in this activity?
2. Why every researcher should know the research agenda?
Activity 3: How Far Have You Gone as a Researcher?

You’re doing great! You are now on the last part of assessing your learnings and
preparation to the more tedious task in research. Now you can make a conceptual framework
by utilizing the format above.
