Jesus, The Messiah

Mat 1:1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham:

Gr. Christos = Anointed

Heb. Messiah, Psalm 2:2 Anointed refers to a consecrated person, a holy servant
Anoint = smear
Anointed = smeared with the Presence of God, God was present with that servant

The Coming One

Luk 2:25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was
just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
Luk 2:26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before
he had seen the Lord's Christ.
Luk 2:27 So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child
Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law,
Luk 2:28 he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said:
Luk 2:29 "Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, According to Your word;
Luk 2:30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation
Luk 2:31 Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,
Luk 2:32 A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel."
Luk 2:33 And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him.
Luk 2:34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is
destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against
Luk 2:35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts
may be revealed."
Luk 2:36 Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of
Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;
Luk 2:37 and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the
temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
Luk 2:38 And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those
who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

Joh 1:19 Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from
Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"
Joh 1:20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."

Joh 1:32 And John bore witness, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove,
and He remained upon Him.
Joh 1:33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon
whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the
Holy Spirit.'

Joh 1:40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's
brother.
Joh 1:41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah"
(which is translated, the Christ).

Their Expectations of The Coming One

Joh 1:43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him,
"Follow Me."
Joh 1:44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
Joh 1:45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the
law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

Joh 4:25 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When
He comes, He will tell us all things."
Joh 4:26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."

Isaiah 7:14, 9:6

Dan 9:25 "Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To
restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two
weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.
Dan 9:26 "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the
people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall
be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

434 years
Cyrus Ezra 1:1-4 This decree, recorded in Ezra 1:1-4, gives Israel permission to rebuild the
Temple.
The Second Decree of Artaxerxes - 444 B.C. or 445 B.C.
This decree, recorded in Nehemiah 2, allows the Jews to return and rebuild the walls of
Jerusalem. It is this decree that is the most likely candidate for the start of Daniel’s seventy
weeks in Daniel 9.

The Revelation

Mat 16:14 So they said, "Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of
the prophets."
Mat 16:15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Mat 16:16 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
Mat 16:17 Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and
blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
Mat 16:18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and
the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.
Mat 16:19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on
earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
Mat 16:20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the
Christ.

Why did He tell them not to reveal

1, Sufficient proof through His works
Mat 11:2 And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his
disciples
Mat 11:3 and said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?"
Mat 11:4 Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and tell John the things which you hear and
see:
Mat 11:5 The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead
are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
Mat 11:6 And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me."

2, His current mission

He came to be crucified
1Co 2:8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have
crucified the Lord of glory.

What The Messiah Came to Do

1, demonstrate the anointing
Luk 4:18 "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH
THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM
LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY
THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED;
Luk 4:19 TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD."

Act 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went
about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Isa 10:27 It shall come to pass in that day That his burden will be taken away from your
shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing
oil.

2, be the Holy Servant who would do the Father's will

Heb 1:9 YOU HAVE LOVED RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HATED LAWLESSNESS; THEREFORE GOD,
YOUR GOD, HAS ANOINTED YOU WITH THE OIL OF GLADNESS MORE THAN YOUR
COMPANIONS."

Hebrews 10:1-10
Heb 10:1 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of
the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make
those who approach perfect.
Heb 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified,
would have had no more consciousness of sins.
Heb 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year.
Heb 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.
Heb 10:5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU
DID NOT DESIRE, BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME.
Heb 10:6 IN BURNT OFFERINGS AND SACRIFICES FOR SIN YOU HAD NO PLEASURE.
Heb 10:7 THEN I SAID, 'BEHOLD, I HAVE COME— IN THE VOLUME OF THE BOOK IT IS
WRITTEN OF ME— TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.' "

Heb 10:8 Previously saying, "SACRIFICE AND OFFERING, BURNT OFFERINGS, AND OFFERINGS
FOR SIN YOU DID NOT DESIRE, NOR HAD PLEASURE IN THEM" (which are offered according to
the law),
Heb 10:9 then He said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD." He takes away
the first that He may establish the second.
Heb 10:10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ
once for all.

Jesus is still The Messiah

Hebrews 13:8

Act 2:36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus,
whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."

Act 4:24 So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said:
"Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them,
Act 4:25 who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: 'WHY DID THE NATIONS RAGE,
AND THE PEOPLE PLOT VAIN THINGS?
Act 4:26 THE KINGS OF THE EARTH TOOK THEIR STAND, AND THE RULERS WERE GATHERED
TOGETHER AGAINST THE LORD AND AGAINST HIS CHRIST.'
Act 4:27 "For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and
Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together

Act 9:34 And Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed."
Then he arose immediately.

INVIATATION TO RECEIVE CHRIST

We like to end our services by giving an invitation to any one here who has never experienced
the power of Jesus Christ in their lives to do so. The Lord Jesus Christ, who is God – came into
this world about 2000 years ago, as a Man. He was crucified on a cross where He took upon Him
the sins of the whole world and paid for them. He died and rose up again, and ascended back
into heaven. He is alive today. If you will believe in Him you will be saved.
