 A.   SUMMARY

My overarching topic for my research paper is the human service industry with a focus on social
worker’s burnout and misconduct affecting the outcome of their assigned cases. I chose this topic
because I am planning on going to college to study social work and be able to help fix the system
from within to make sure that all cases are thoroughly looked at with the appropriate resources
offered. The driving questions that will drive my research are:

o What resources are social workers given to help those who are vulnerable against
injustice and abuse?

o What does a typical monthly schedule look like for them?

o How can the workload be managed? How can a social worker have more session
time with clients?

o Why is there so much demand on social workers when they aren’t given the full
report or the necessary resources?

My plan for the project portion of this assignment is to create a seminar with two guests to
discuss the hardships that are in the human service industry affecting social workers. For the
seminar I will begin a short presentation with the research I find and statistics from my research
paper as well as an interactive activity during the presentation. I am hoping to be able to do this
seminar in person if COVID restrictions permit it but if I am not able to accommodate for this
seminar to take place in person I will move it over to a virtual setting. My idea is to have an
experienced social worker and a current social work student studying in human services be the
guests to the seminar. The target audience for my project would be high school students or any
person who is interested in this particular topic. My goal is to show the difference on how
students majoring in human services or social work are prepared before entering the workplace
and how the experiences and expectations change once they are in the workplace with real cases
assigned to them. This goal can be evaluated with the survey slips I will pass out or share
electronically about the way the audience felt during the seminar. The connection from my paper
to the project is identifying the fault in where the burnout begins to occur in social workers and
having real testimonials describe their experiences and concerns they have. The consultant to
assist me with my project will be Ms.Tomao.

C. PROJECT STEPS

Preliminary I will reach out to people who would like to be the guest speakers for the seminar.
Steps Finish up my research paper so I can pick out the information for my presentation
from the paper.

Create the website to be able to place my documentation in.
Midway I will look for a venue (if it is possible to do it in person)
Steps Organize a time and date to have scheduled
I will begin to piece together my presentation for the seminar.
I will provide a brief description of what I would like for the guest speakers to
share.

Later Steps I will confirm with the speakers and make sure they are ready for the seminar.
I’ll make sure to keep the presentation short but informative and engaging.
I will confirm the venue (if possible) or create the virtual setting for the seminar to
take place in.
Make sure my website is published and finished with all documentation presented
Follow up I will send out thank you cards to guest speakers and the audience for their
participation and time to attend the seminar

E.    PROJECT JUSTIFICATION

This is a quality project for me that is challenging because I have never planned or participated
in something this complex. I will have to reach out to social workers and see if they will be
interested in doing this favor for a high school student. I have to reach out to a student who will
be willing to share their experiences in front of an audience. I have to figure out a venue in case
it is possible to do this in person and make sure it is following all COVID guidelines. I know this
will impact future students who plan on pursuing a career in human services or social work with
the knowledge and advice that these guest speakers will share with them. This will also have an
impact on me to be able to gain confidence at public speaking and get some experience in being
able to coordinate important events. This is absolutely worth my time and effort because I am
passionate about helping to fix a system that is not being assisted and having a domino effect on
the cases that go ignored because of the lack of resources and time that is not made available to
them.
