Introduction
Me-FM is a pioneering and unique multi ethnic community radio station promoting cultural
diversity, learning & training opportunities, volunteering opportunities, social inclusion and
community development. Me-FM is a unique media and communication experience run by
Multi Ethnic Aberdeen Limited (MeAL).
Background
In May 2001, Me-FM successfully broadcasted for the first time via restricted service license
(RSL) for ten days on a 24 hour basis. Subsequently, Me-FM broadcasted for 28 days each
time in the month of May (4th to 31st) between 2002 and 2007. The station then went on to
broadcast in June for the first time in 2008 for 28 days. The station is running for the fourth
time during June in 2011. The radio station is run entirely by over 50 volunteers from diverse
backgrounds studying, working and living in Scotland.
Me-FM provides an entertaining, educative and informative blend of vibrant music and diverse
discussion programs celebrating the diversity of cultures making up the Northeast of
Scotland. In May 2002, Dave Loyden, one of Me-FM’s former volunteers, helped set a new
world Guinness book record (at the time) for a non-stop DJ radio stint of 73 hours and 30
minutes.
