Base plate Analysis Document

1. Theory
The base plate is mounted on the frame and is subject to forces from the constrainer, bolts
clamping and the weight of the module. The base plate must sustain the loads and also a safety factor of
these loads, plus the loads it will experience during transportation.

Ideally a thicker base plate will be able to sustain the forces mentioned above, however the
plate will be heavy to handle and also be expensive, so a combination of an ideal plate thickness and the
Angle irons / Box beams design is feasible. Such design is less expensive and also slightly easy to
manufacture.

C) Analysis – Ansys
1. Preparation
CAD file generated according to actual dimensions and then imported. The
footprint of the Module, fasteners, fixed supports is used on a single plate. For
simplification of the analysis model, the analysis simulation will be run only on a single
component.
