Infectious diseases are a public health problem, especially for developed and developing
countries. Infectious diseases are diseases caused by the entry and reproduction of
microorganisms, a broad group of microscopic organisms consisting of one or many cells such as
bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses. One of the infectious diseases caused by bacteria is
pneumonia.Pneumonia is an infectious disease which is a major cause of mortality in children
under five years of age in the world. National Basic Health Research 2007 reported that infant
mortality in Indonesia has reached 15.5%. The objective of the study was to identify the
determinant factors related to the incidence of pneumonia in children under five years of age in
Indonesia.

Pneumonia is an acute infection or inflammation of the lung tissue caused by various

microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi, exposure to chemicals, or physical
damage to the lungs. Pneumonia can affect anyone, such as children, adolescents, young adults
and the elderly. The following are some signs and symptoms of pneumonia in infants: high fever,
shortness of breath or the baby seems to have difficulty breathing, the baby's nose goes flat when
breathing, the baby's breath sounds, cough, runny nose, the baby does not want to breastfeed or
eat, chest or stomach pain, the baby looks restless and weak, lips and nails look blue or cyanosis.
In addition to the pneumonia symptoms above, babies can also experience vomiting or diarrhea.
This situation further increases the risk of dehydration in infants.

Hence, breathing is fundamental in us, so as much as possible we must maintain our

health in breathing. We as prospective parents in the future, must learn how the signs that appear
if we experience respiratory problems. And try to be alert from an early age.
