Your assignment is to briefly

explain the commonalities offered by Thaddeus Metz among the

major religio-philosophies on universal beneficence and human interdependence, and discuss
how these might be of use to forge a global civics

There are several commonalities among the major religio-philosophies on universal beneficence,
focusing highly on interdependence between humans. They have the theme of our obligation towards
people and a sense of responsibility that is important in this world to live in. The question and main
point is if these can be interplayed in a way that can create a global conscience. It is deemed important
for global conscience to take place so everybody understands the events taking place and their risks and
benefits as a collective society. All these major religion-philosophies can be deduced to four specific
worldviews which revolve around helping each other regardless of the differences in ethnicity,
nationality, color or race. This can aid in a person attaching meaning to his life or thinking it has some
meaningful essence to it now. All faith or belief scriptures emphasize on treating someone like you
would treat yourself, showing same respect and empathy that you would expect for yourself.
Another point is to give a keen regard to other people’s needs and wants and how they can be satisfied
because this would in turn help you achieve an important connection with something of a greater good.
Moreover, commonalities found are God’s purpose, reincarnation, communities that lie at traditional
African religions and humanism characteristic of mainstream Confucianism in the east and also secular
ethical philosophies in the West.

If each one of us feels an obligation towards humanity, put importance to the issues faced by others and
try to help whoever is in need it would help global civics perform easily. Global civics is about
understanding that there is a social contract among the global population, and we are living in an age of
interdependence. Therefore, these common points between religion-philosophies lay a foundation
where people see aiding each other and becoming a source of reliance in times of crisis act as a driving
force in global civics. Once you see others as yourself and act in accordance to their benefit and need it
would lead to mutual interdependence which is significant in the world we live in. We live in an
unpredictable world where everyday there is an uncertain situation to deal with such as the Covid-19
which cause havoc. There was misinformation and delays in treatment, however if above mentioned
points such as collective responsibility are instilled in people it would easier to forge global civics.

These religion-philosophies on universal beneficence weigh in on same global civics because they have a
similar foundation and strings in interplay therefore the common points do forge global civics.
