EQUATION
A statement that the values of two mathematical expressions are equal (indicated by
the sign =).

Solve for x.

x + 8 = 12

To solve the equation x + 8 = 12, you must get x by itself on one side.

X + 8 = 12

X = 12 - 8

X=4

To check your answer, simply plug your answer into the equation:

Solve for x.

x + 8 = 12 + (2-2)

To solve the equation x + 8 = 12 + (2-2), you must get x by itself on one side.

x + 8 = 12 + (2-2)

X = 12 + (2-2) -8

X = 12 - 8

X=4
