Description
The Mid Rim was a region of the galaxy that formed a ring between the Expansion Region
and the Outer Rim Territories, making it the furthest region from the Deep Core that was
considered part of the "inner planets." The Mid Rim was full of varied worlds, many of which
boasted successful governments and thriving economies; however, their distance from the
Core meant that they lacked the fame of notoriety of Core Worlds like Corellia.[21]

History

Early history

4/21
A thousand years before the Cold War,[41] a
battle was fought on the Mid Rim world of
Takodana between the ancient Jedi and Sith.
Maz Kanata's castle was later built on the site of
the battlefield.[8]

Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana

Malastare Narrows
At some point before the Clone Wars, the Corporate Alliance led by the Harch Admiral
Trench blockaded the Mid Rim world of Malastare. A Galactic Republic force consisting of
Wullf Yularen and a Jedi-led task force put an end to the blockade, which resulted in heavy
losses for both sides as well as the Harch commander's first presumed death.[42]

Naboo Crisis
In 32 BBY, the Trade Federation and the Republic were embroiled in a dispute over the
taxation of trade routes to outlying systems including the Mid Rim world of Naboo. As a
result, the Trade Federation invaded and occupied the planet. The Federation was eventually
expelled from the planet by a coalition of the human Naboo, the indigenous Gungans, and
the Jedi.[43]

The Clone Wars

Until the Clone Wars, the Mid Rim was considered a tranquil region,[21] but it saw extensive
fighting between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the
conflict. After General Grievous ambushed Republic Navy forces above the planet Falleen,
Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi advised Anakin Skywalker to take his fleet out of Bothawui to
regroup. Skywalker's fleet instead clashed with Grievous' fleet above Bothawui[44] in 22 BBY.
[45] During the battle, R2-D2 was lost but later rescued.[46]

Later, Senator Padmé Amidala, Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks, the Jedi, and clone
troopers discovered that the Separatist scientist Nuvo Vindi was operating a biological
weapons laboratory on Naboo.[47] Following a lengthy struggle, they neutralized Dr. Vindi's
Blue Shadow Virus and prevented it from escaping into Naboo's atmosphere.[48]

In 21 BBY,[49] Malastare became the site of fighting between the Republic and the Separatists
due to its fuel supplies. During the battle, the Jedi signed a treaty with the Dug Council after
agreeing to destroy an ancient monster called the Zillo Beast. The Jedi and clone troopers
managed to stun the beast with cannons and smuggled it back to Coruscant for research.[50]

5/21
In 20 BBY,[51] the Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano was
kidnapped by Trandoshan bounty hunters and
transported to the Trandoshan moon of Wasskah.
There, she teamed up with the former Jedi younglings
Kalifa, O-Mer, and Jinx to survive.[52] The Jedi then
joined forces with the Wookiee Chewbacca to fight
back against the Trandoshans. They were rescued by a Malastare's fuel reserves were vital to
the Republic war effort
Wookiee relief force led by General Tarfful.[53]

Later that year,[54] the Gungan minister Rish Loo, a Separatist agent, attempted to
manipulate Boss Lyonie into helping the Separatists attack the Naboo capital Theed. Loo's
plot was foiled by Binks, Amidala, and Jedi Knight Skywalker. The Gungans captured
Grievous but were forced to release him after the Separatist leader Count Dooku took
Skywalker hostage.[55]

Later, the Mid Rim planet of Aleen experienced severe earthquakes, which killed many of the
native Aleena. The droids C-3PO and R2-D2 took part in a Republic relief mission led by
Clone Commander Wolffe. During the course of the mission, C-3PO and R2-D2 encountered
the underground-dwelling Kintaro and the amphibian being Orphne, who revealed that the
earthquakes had been caused by a breach on the surface. After returning to Aleen's surface,
the two droids helped seal the breach, which ended the earthquake and restored peace to
both the underworld and surface.[56] C-3PO and R2-D2 then embarked on an unplanned
adventure which took them to the planets Patitite Pattuna and Balnab.[57]

Some time after, Kenobi, Skywalker, and Mace Windu foiled a plot by Cad Bane and Count
Dooku to kidnap Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.[58] In 19 BBY, the planet Ord Mantell was
the site of a battle between the former Sith apprentice Maul and his Shadow Collective and
Grievous, which ended in the latter's capture.[59] In response, the Republic sent a team of
Jedi led by Windu to Ord Mantell to investigate Maul's activities.[60]

During the Outer Rim Sieges, the Jedi General Quinlan Vos moved his forces to Boz Pity.
Master Yoda commanded Wookiee and clone forces during the Battle of Kashyyyk. Yoda was
forced to flee the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk when Palpatine issued Order 66. Shortly
thereafter, the Republic was transformed into the Galactic Empire and the Separatist
leadership was destroyed, ending the Clone Wars.[61]

Imperial Era
During the Imperial Era, the Mid Rim along with much of the galaxy came under the
dominion of the Empire. In 14 BBY, the Imperial Vice Admiral Dodd Rancit identified the
Mid Rim world of Lantillies as a potential target of Berch Teller's rebel cell.[62]

6/21
In 10 BBY,[63] the criminal Tobias Beckett and his
gang including Imperial deserter Han Solo and
Chewbacca undertook a heist to steal a train cargo of
coaxium[64] on the Mid Rim world of Vandor.[65] The
heist failed due to the intervention of Enfys Nest and
her rebel group the Cloud-Riders, leaving Beckett and
Imperial forces patrolling Jedha City
his crew indebted to the Crimson Dawn crime lord
Dryden Vos. After convincing Dryden to give them a
second chance, Solo, Beckett, Chewbacca, and the Crimson Dawn lieutenant Qi'ra convinced
the smuggler and gambler Lando Calrissian to help them steal coaxium from the Pyke
Syndicate on Kessel.[64]

On one occasion, HoloNet News reported that the 212th Attack Battalion led by General
Kahdah had quelled a Wookiee revolt on Kashyyyk. As a result, civilian travel to the planet
was restricted.[38] The xenophobic Empire also enslaved the Wookiees of Kashyyyk, viewing
them as an expendable source of slave labor. Many Wookiees were fitted with inhibitor chips
while Kashyyyk was renamed Imperial Territory G5-623.[66] Nevertheless, some Wookiees
like Chewbacca[14] and Lohgarra managed to flee offworld and live free lives.[67]

In 4 BBY,[68] the Spectres rebel operative Hera Syndulla traveled to the Mid Rim world of
Shantipole on behalf of the rebellion to obtain a prototype B-wing starfighter from the Mon
Calamari
[69] engineer Quarrie. As a result, the rebellion gained access to the B-wing starfighters.

In 3 BBY,[70] Saw Gerrera's Partisans assassinated Naboo's Imperial governor, Moff Quarsh
Panaka.[71]

By 0 BBY, Imperial forces had occupied the Mid Rim moon of Jedha, a sacred site which
hosted the Temple of the Kyber. The Empire mined Jedha for kyber crystals, which were used
as part of the Death Star's superlaser. Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin later destroyed Jedha City
in order to test the Death Star's superlaser. The Rebel Alliance operatives Cassian Andor and
Jyn Erso managed to smuggle the Imperial defector Bodhi Rook, who had knowledge on how
to destroy the Death Star, offworld. To conceal the Death Star, the Empire told the Imperial
Senate that Jedha City had been destroyed in a mining accident. In addition, the Empire ran
a penal labor camp on the planet Wobani.[72]

Following the destruction of Alderaan, Darth Vader visited the Mid Rim volcanic mining
world of Shu-Torun to ensure that the King of Shu-Torun and his people remained loyal to
the Empire. Vader defeated a plot by the King and his family to assassinate him with the help
of the assassin droids 0-0-0 and BT-1. Vader then forced the King's youngest daughter
Princess Trios to become the new Queen of Shu-Torun.[23] Trios helped the Empire to
subdue several rebellious ore-dukes during the War on Shu-Torun.[73]

7/21
During the Galactic Civil War, several Mid Rim worlds and systems including Haidoral
Prime, Coyerti, the Chonsetta system, the Redhurne system, and the Elochar sector became
battle sites between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire during the Mid Rim Retreat. After
months of fighting, Alliance forces became overstretched and Alliance High Command was
forced to order a retreat as Imperial forces counter-attacked.[7]

Rise of the New Republic

After the Battle of Endor, crowds celebrated the death of

Emperor Palpatine in the streets of Naboo's capital Theed.[74]
Later, the Naboo Queen Sosha Soruna accepted an offer from
Princess Leia Organa to join the New Republic, the successor
government to the Rebel Alliance. In the days after the events
at Endor, Naboo was targeted by Operation: Cinder, a
contingency plan to scour several worlds in the event of the
Emperor's death. General Lando Calrissian saved the planet The Scouring of Naboo
from being destroyed by several Imperial climate disruption
arrays.[75] The New Republic also repelled three attempts by Imperial forces to retake the
planet.[67]

In the months following Endor, Grand Moff Valco Pandion abandoned an Imperial
communications station on Malastare.[14] Despite this setback, Imperial remnant forces
under Grand General Kenner Loring still controlled the planet. During the Galactic Civil War,
Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana was regarded as a neutral sanctuary for smugglers, pirates,
Imperials, and rebels.[66]

Solo and his co-pilot Chewbacca later led a campaign to liberate Kashyyyk from Imperial
rule.[14] Despite several setbacks and the New Republic's hesitance, Solo and Chewie
managed to disable Grand Moff Lozen Tolruck's inhibitor chips and inspire a Wookiee revolt
in 5 ABY with the help of Wookiee exiles, former slaves, the former Imperial loyalty officer
Sinjir Rath Velus, the bounty hunter Jas Emari, and the New Republic Special Forces soldier
Jom Barell. A New Republic fleet led by Admiral Ackbar then forced the surrender of the
remaining Imperial ships above Kashyyyk, ending the Imperial subjugation of the Wookiees.
[66]
In the months leading up to the Battle of Jakku, Wookiee and New Republic forces
mopped up Imperial holdouts, liberating many Wookiee slaves including Waroo,
Chewbacca's son.[76]

The Mid Rim world of Naboo also became a refuge for many orphans and refugees. One of
these, Mapo, befriended Binks, who had become a street performer.[76]

Cold war

8/21
Prior to the outbreak of open war, the First Order used a series of false flag pirate raids on the
Colossus oil refueling platform on the Outer Rim planet of Castilon to pressure Captain
Imanuel Doza into accepting a military occupation of the Colossus.[77] Following the Hosnian
Cataclysm, Team Colossus, led by Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono and New Republic veteran
Jarek Yeager expelled the First Order and took the space station into space.[78] In response,
the First Order launched a hunt for the runaway station.[79]

In 34 ABY, Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana was attacked by the First Order. The Hosnian
Cataclysm was also witnessed by many at Maz Kanata's castle.[80]

First Order/Resistance War

During the war between] the First Order and the Resistance, Poe Dameron, Finn, Chewbacca,
and Klaud undertook a mission to the Sinta Glacier Colony, where Boolio informed them that
a First Order spy had confirmation that Emperor Palpatine had returned from the dead.[81]

Later, Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewbacca, C-3PO, BB-8, and D-O traveled to Kijimi City seeking a
droidsmith who could retrieve the memory of the inscriptions on Ochi's dagger from 3PO's
memory banks. The group found a droid mechanic named Babu Frik, who got C-3PO to
translate the Sith inscription at the cost of losing his memories, a choice that 3PO willingly
made to help his friends. With the help of Poe's former spice-running associate Zorii Bliss,
the group escaped offworld, rescued Chewie, and retrieved the Millennium Falcon from the
Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Steadfast.[81]

The resurrected Emperor Palpatine later ordered Allegiant General Enric Pryde to send the
Xyston-class Star Destroyer Derriphan to destroy Kijimi in order to intimidate the galaxy
into submitting to the Emperor's Sith Eternal.[81]

40. ↑ According to Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most
Notorious, in the year 7973 C.R.C., Ketsu Onyo resigned from the Black Sun. It
also dates the Battle of Scarif to 7977 C.R.C., four years after Onyo's resignation.
Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates Jyn Erso's mission to steal the plans of the first
Death Star, which concluded with the Battle of Scarif, to 0 BBY. Therefore, it can
be calculated that 7973 C.R.C. is equal to 4 BBY. Since Onyo states in "Blood
Sisters" that she currently works for the Black Sun, that episode must occur by 4
BBY. Additionally, Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the Siege of Lothal to 4 BBY.
Since "Wings of the Master" occurs after the Siege of Lothal but before the events
of "Blood Sisters," it can be concluded that the episode took place in 4 BBY.
41. ↑ Star Wars Rebels – "Wings of the Master"
42. ↑ Star Wars: Galactic Atlas places Leia Organa's birth in 19 BBY. The events of
Leia, Princess of Alderaan commence just after Organa's sixteenth birthday, which
places the events of the novel in 3 BBY.
