General Instructions:
1. All questions are compulsory.
2. The question paper has three sections and 15 questions. All questions are compulsory.
3. Section–A has 7 questions of 2 marks each; Section–B has 6 questions of 3 marks each; and Section–C has 2 case
based questions of 4 marks each.
4. Internal choices have been provided in some questions. A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in

1. (a) Label (1) and (2) in the given diagram showing sex determination in human beings.
(b) If a child inherits X-chromosome from the father, what will be his/her gender ?

2. “Carbon forms strong bonds with most other elements and making the compounds exceptionally stable”. Give
reason to justify this statement.

3. Define the term pollination. What is the significance of pollination ?

(i) a saturated cyclic carbon having 6 carbon atoms.
(ii) an unsaturated cyclic carbon with 6 carbon atoms.
(b) What name is given to these structures ?
(c) Out of two cyclic hydrocarbons which one is more reactive ?

Write the molecular formula of the fourth and fifth member of the homologous series of carbon compounds
represented by the general formula Cn H2n + 1 OH . How do the fourth and fifth member of the homologous series of
carbon compounds differ form each other ? Mention any two characteristics of the compounds of a homologous
series.

10. Find the equivalent resistance between point A and B in the given circuit.

11. A plant has two varieties, one with red petals and the other with white petals. When these varieties are cross –
pollinated, all the flowers obtained have red petals.
(a) Identify the gene which is (i) dominant (ii) recessive.
(b) How will you differentiate between dominant and recessive genes ?

12. An element ‘M’ has atomic number 12.


(i) Write its electronic configuration and valency.
(ii) Is ‘M’ a metal or a non-metal ? Give reason in support of your answer.
(iii) Write the formula and nature (acidic/basic) of the oxide of M.

13. Draw a labelled circuit diagram of the circuit used to show the variation of potential difference across the ends of a
resistor with current flowing through it. If you use this circuit, what relation would you find between the voltmeter
reading, V and the ammeter reading, I ?

A V - I graph for a nichrome wire is given below. What do you infer from this graph ? Draw a labelled circuit
diagram to obtain such a graph.

SECTION-C
This section has 02 case-based questions (14 and 15). Each case is followed by 03 sub-questions (a, b and c).
Parts a and b are compulsory. However, an internal choice has been provided in part c.
