3. Section–A has 7 questions of 2 marks each; Section–B has 6 questions of 3 marks each; and Section–C has 2 case
based questions of 4 marks each.
4. Internal choices have been provided in some questions. A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in
such questions.

SECTION-A
1. Give any two ways in which biodegradable substances would affect the environment.

2. Give reason:
(a) In human males, the testes lie outside the abdominal cavity in the scrotum.
(b) Bread mould grow rapidly on a moist slice of bread than on a dry slice of bread.

3. State the basic requirement for sexual reproduction? Write the importance of such reproductions in nature.

4. Write the name, symbol and electronic configuration of an element ‘X’ whose atomic number 11.
or
State limitations of Newlands’ Law of Octaves.

5. Distinguish between autosomes and sex chromosomes.

or
How do Mendel’s experiments show that traits may be dominant or recessive ?

6. Differentiate between alkanes and alkenes. Name and draw the structure of one member of each.

or
Write the principle of working of an electric motor.

SECTION-B
8. Mention three harmful effects of using polythene bags on the environment. Suggest an effective alternative to
these bags.

9. (a) What is the number of chromosomes present in a zygote ?

(b) What is the function of cellular DNA ?
(c) All the gametes formed in human females have an X chromosomes. Explain.

10. (a) Write the structural isomers of butane.

(b) Why hydrocarbons with carbon atoms less than 4 can’t show structural isomerism ?
or
The table shows the electronic structures of four elements.

Element Electronic Structure

A 1
B 2, 8, 8, 1
C 2, 7
D 2, 6
(a) Identify which element(s) will form diatomic molecule.
(b) Show the electron dot structure of diatomic molecule formed by any one of elements.
(c) What will be the nature of compound formed between carbon and carbon ?

11. Study the following electric circuit and find (i) the current flowing in the circuit and (ii) the potential difference
across 10 W resistor.

or
What is electrical resistivity ? Derive its SI unit. In a series electrical circuit comprising a resistor made up of a
metallic wire, the ammeter reads 100 mA. If the length of the wire is doubled, how will the current in the circuit
change ? Justify your answer.

12. Consider the given circuit and find the current flowing in the circuit and potential difference across the 15 W

resistor when the circuit is closed.

13. How is possible valency of element determined from electronic configuration of its atom? Determine the valency
of element ‘X’ whose atomic number is 15.

SECTION-C
This section has 02 case-based questions (14 and 15). Each case is followed by 03 sub-questions (a, b and c).
Parts a and b are compulsory. However, an internal choice has been provided in part c.

14. According to Michael Faraday, when magnet is in motion relative to a coil attached with a galvanometer, induced
electric current is set up in the coil. In another experiment, there were two separate coils. A battery was connected
to one and galvanometer to the other. Only when battery was switched ON or OFF, the galvanometer shows
deflection. This idea of creation of current by changing magnetic field strength is called electromagnetic induction.
The various experiments performed by him laying the foundation necessary to make the electric motor, generators
and transformers.
(a) Name the rule that is used to find the direction of induced current in a closed circuit placed in changing
magnetic field.
(b) How is the induced current in a secondary coil related to current in a primary coil?
(c) Explain the meaning of word “electro-magnetic” and “inductions” in terms of electromagnetic induction.
or
A coil of insulated copper wire is connected to a galvanometer. What would happen if a bar magnet is held
stationary in the coil ?

15. It has been established that in human beings, sex is genetically determined. Mother should not be blamed for
giving birth to a girl child. Also both male and female babies have equal right to live and illegal aborption of
female foetus is a crime. But in some of the animals, sex determination is also controlled by the environmental
factors for example, in a turtle (Chtysema picta), high incubation temperature leads to the development of female
offsprings. On the other hand lizard (Agama agama), high incubation temperature results in male progeny.
(a) Why male is heterogametic in human beings ?
(b) Sex determination is controlled by environmental factors. Explain why ?
(c) A man with blood group B and genotypically he is heterozygous marries a woman with blood O. What will
be possible blood groups of their children ?
or
Human beings have 46 chromosomes. How many autosomes and sex chromosomes are present in humans ? Explain.
