Diversity and quotes from The Rotary
Book of Readings( 2015) including one
from Rotary Founder, Paul Harris, who
said “Segregation never brought anyone
anything but trouble.”

large article in the Wall Street Journal
on the Ukrainian decorating of Easter
eggs.
Jennifer Brophy had 5 Happy Bucks
for being able to attend the meeting in
person.

the great group in attendance today.

being able to Zoom in for the meeting.

Rich Render announced the next E-
Waste Recycling Fundraiser will be on
Saturday, April 30th. Helping hands will
be needed all day. Shifts are 9:30 to
1:00 and 12:30 to 4:00. Lunch and
snacks will be provided. Beer at 4 PM for
tear down. Odyssey of the Mind
participants will help during the day.
The District 5160 Spring Assembly and
Training is May 7th in Fairfield, and
Roger has room in his car for a few more
attendees.
John Erickson had the fine free hat for
April and took the opportunity to pass out
Ace Hardware Hershey bars. Another
reason to come to the meetings in
person.
May 9 at Gianni’s Restaurant in San
Ramon there will be a Rotary fund raiser
from 4:30 -8. See flyer attached.

The memorial for Cliff Dochterman has
been postponed. You will be informed
when a new date is set.
~Program~
Roger Gregory introduced Julie Parks,
Superintendent of the Moraga School
District. Julie grew up in Lamorinda and
attended K-12 schools here including
Acalanes High School.
She completed her undergraduate
studies at UCLA and her doctorate at
USC. She participated in the Teach for
America program in New York where she
taught middle school science. Prior to
coming to MSD she worked at Miramonte
High school for 8 years.
The focus of her talk was the recently
developed Joaquin Moraga Bell
Schedule.
A primary motivation for the program is
the need for students to feel that they
belong. The program emphasizes safety,
accountability, innovation and equity in
the school environment. It is based on
LCAP (Local Control and Accountability
Plan).

The pilot program for this new scheduling

will occur during April and May. Students
and parents have been informed. The
district will gain feedback from students
and teachers. Teachers may be hired for
special assignments and negotiations will
have to be finalized with the Moraga
Teachers Association prior to final
implementation.
