3 Requirements

3.1 Basic requirements

Approval of first supply and changes as per Volkswagen standard VW 01155.
Emission behavior as per VW 50180.
Avoidance of hazardous substances as per VW 91101.
At least 5 parts are required for complete testing.

3.2 Properties
The parts must be dimensionally stable and remain functional during transport and storage in the
temperature range from −40 °C to 100 °C, including under climatic conditions of 55 °C and 95%
relative humidity. Splitting into individual layers under these conditions is not permissible.
The molded parts must be impregnated uniformly and over the full surface area.
The surface finish must allow for an even coating with adhesive and must ensure a permanent ad‐
hesive bond with the body panel.
The surface to be coated must be uniformly smooth; apparent troughs are permitted within the lim‐
its of the drawing requirements.
Irritating impurities, emissions, surface coatings or fogging effects that impair the ability of the ad‐
hesive to adhere to the sound-insulating roof reinforcement and/or body are not permissible.
The individual layers (corrugating papers and liners) must be bonded together in a waterproof
manner.
Punch and cut edges must be clean and free of burrs and protected from moisture penetration;
brittle fracture is not permissible.
Deviations from the described requirements must be tested in the vehicle. Any deviations must be
documented on the drawing.

3.3 Shelf life

The parts must have a shelf life of up to 3 months under the conditions indicated above. After the
storage time, the functional dimensions – especially the camber of the parts – must still conform to
the drawing requirements.

3.4 Human compatibility

The molded parts must be physiologically safe. They must not cause skin irritations or objectiona‐
ble odors.

3.5 Dimensions
Dimensions and tolerances as per drawing

3.6 Marking as per VDA 260

3.7 Conditioning
Before testing, the specimens must be conditioned in the VW 50554 – 23/50-2 standard climate for
at least 24 h.

3.8 Evaluation of the measurement results

The required numerical values apply to each individual measurement.

3.9 Build sample approval (BMG)

The parts are subject to build sample approval (BMG).

6 Notes on testing

6.1 Mass per unit area

The mass per unit area is determined using 5 specimens with an area of at least 100 cm2.
Page 7
TL 52337: 2015-08

6.2 Bending resistance

The bending resistance is determined as per PV 3950, with the following deviation:
Specimen size: length = 170 mm; width = 50 mm, start of measuring displacement at 1 mm, end of
measuring displacement at 2 mm. It may be necessary to reduce the start of the measuring dis‐
placement to the extent that the measuring displacement of 1 mm until the force decreases is still
achieved.

The tests subsequent to aging tests are carried out within 30 min to 60 min after removal from the
respective aging test.
Requirements must be met both by the front and the rear side.

6.3 Water absorption

Water absorption (Cobb test) as per DIN EN ISO 535
Water quantity: 100 ml; exposure period 30 min; specimen size approx. (170 × 170) mm2.
Deviating from DIN EN ISO 535, the water standing on the surface is absorbed using an absorbent
cloth (e.g., single-layer, high-quality Airlaid from Temca). The part must not be wiped over several
times, but rather lightly dabbed off.

6.4 Adhesion of the layers

Testing as per PV 2034. The tests subsequent to aging tests are carried out within 30 min to
60 min after removal from the respective aging test.
