1- A package is projected up a 15° incline at A with an initial

velocity of 8 m/s. Knowing that the coefficient of kinetic friction
between the package and the incline is 0.12, determine (a) the
maximum distance d that the package will move up the incline,
(b) the velocity of the package as it returns to its original
position.

Solution:
2- A spring is used to stop a 60-kg package which is sliding on a
horizontal surface. The spring has a constant k = 20 kN/m and is
held by cables so that it is initially compressed 120 mm. Knowing
that the package has a velocity of 2.5 m/s in the position shown and
that the maximum additional deflection of the spring is 40 mm,
determine (a) the coefficient of kinetic friction between the package
and the surface, (b) the velocity of the package as it passes again
through the position shown.
3 - Packages are thrown down an incline at A with a velocity of 1 m/s.
The packages slide along the surface ABC to a conveyor belt which
moves with a velocity of 2 m/s. Knowing that µ𝑘 = 0.25 between the
packages and the surface ABC, determine the distance d if the
packages are to arrive at C with a velocity of 2 m/s.
4- The system shown, consisting of a 20 Kg collar A and a 10 Kg
counterweight B, is at rest when a constant 500N force is applied to collar A.
(a) Determine the speed of A just before it hits the support at C. (b) Solve
part a assuming that the counterweight B is replaced by a 98.1N downward
force. Ignore friction and the mass of the pulleys.
5- Determine the velocity of the 60-lb block A if the two blocks are
released from rest and the 40-lb block B moves 2 ft up the incline.
The coefficient of kinetic friction between both blocks and the
inclined planes is 𝜇𝑘 = 0.10.
6- The 2-lb brick slides down a smooth roof, such that when it is at
A it has a velocity of 5 ft/s .Determine the speed of the brick just
before it leaves the surface at B, the distance 𝑑 from the wall to
where it strikes the ground, and the speed at which it hits the
ground.
7- Determine the height h of the incline D to which the
200-kg roller coaster car will reach, if it is launched at B
with a speed just sufficient for it to round the top of the
loop at C without leaving the track. The radius of
curvature at C is 𝜌𝑐 = 25 𝑚 .
8- If the track is to be designed so that the passengers of
the roller coaster do not experience a normal force equal to
zero or more than 4 times their weight, determine the
limiting heights ℎ𝐴 and ℎ𝑐 so that this does not occur. The
roller coaster starts from rest at position A. Neglect
friction.
9 -The 0.5-kg ball of negligible size is fired up the smooth vertical circular
track using the spring plunger. The plunger keeps the spring compressed
0.08 m when 𝑠 = 0 . Determine how far 𝑠 it must be pulled back and
released so that the ball will begin to leave the track when 𝜃 = 135°.
