What Is In The Community?
Type of lesson:

Standards:
SS.K.G.2.1 and LAFS.K.RI.1.2
Objectives:
Students will identify places inside their community
Students will identify key details in the text that describes what each place is.
Materials:
Youtube videos- (this will be provided to students via projector)
Pencil
Paper
Procedures:
The teacher will ask students to raise their hands and identify places inside our community.
Students will be given 10 min to discuss in a group setting what places are inside of their
community.
The teacher will put on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DW-3JAQygWs and have students
quietly watch the videos as a group. Students can move as needed to make sure they are able
to see the the videos. Closed captioning must be turned on.
After the videsos, teacher will discuss the videos with the class.
Ask questions like: Did you say any of these places prior to the videos? Did you learn something
knew from the video? Do you have any questions or comments to share with the class?
Have students identify the main idea, places inside our community. Make sure they are able to
provide details about places inside our community.
The teacher will pass out a worksheet to the class.
The teacher will read the instructions from the worksheet, and tell students if they have
questions or needs help, they can raise their hand.
Walk around the room, observe, and help students as needed.
Go over worksheet with students. Students will work on the worksheets alone, but are able to
discuss ideas and help other students.
Students who cannot finish the worksheet or need more assistance may take it home and work
on the worksheet with an adult.
Students are to turn in worksheet the following day.
Remind students to use their flashcards if they need help with ideas for places in their
community, and places they enjoy visiting.
Evaluation:
Students will complete a worksheet and turn it into the teacher by the next day. Teacher will be
able to see where all students are at based on the worksheet, and will be able to learn from
students.
Students will be given the option to share their worksheet with the class if they wish to do so.
Accomidation: Students will receive extended time, dictionaries may be provided if needed.
Students may complete the assignment in the language that is most comfortable to them.
Students will receive pictures of places inside the community that they are able to refer to if they
need help with places inside community.
