Friends of Chau Van Kham

For Immediate Release

PRESS RELEASE

IT'S TIME TO BRING HIM HOME

Sydney, January 13, 2022 - On this day, three years ago an Australian citizen Chau Van Kham
was wrongfully detained and sentenced to 12 years in prison on a fabricated charge by the
Vietnamese government. His case has been widely reported by many news outlets in
Australia and around the world. Amnesty International Australia declared Kham, a
prisoner of conscience and has rallied more than 25,000 signatures
(https://action.amnesty.org.au/act-now/chau-van-kham-vietnam) to call for his immediate
release.

We have written to many politicians around Australia calling for support to help save and
bring Kham home safely to Sydney. On the 4th of October 2021 and again on 10th of
December 2021, we wrote to Senator Payne asking for her intervention into Kham’s case.

We are concerned that the harsh prison conditions in Vietnam in conjunction with Mr.
Chau's advanced age and pre-existing chronic illnesses, coupled with the current Covid-19
pandemic, he is facing imminent risk of mortality.

Please join us to call Senator Payne and urge the Australian Government to openly
intervene, and demand for the unconditional release of Australian citizen Chau Van Kham,
so he can be safely reunited with his family in Australia.

Thank you very much in anticipation of your support.

In hope,

Vo Hong
Australian citizen,
Former Prisoner of Conscience
Representative of Friends of Chau Van Kham
