QUESTIONS
• When reporting a question, the most
frequently used verb is ASK. Other verbs are:
enquire, wonder, want to know…

• There are 2 types of questions:


– Wh- questions
– Yes/no questions
WH- QUESTIONS
• Questions beginning with an INTERROGATIVE
PRONOUN: who, what, which, where, when.

"Where did she go yesterday night?", John asked.


John asked me where she had gone the previous night.
"Who are you?", the man asked.
"Who are you?", the man asked.

The man asked


"Who are you?", the man asked.

The man asked who


"Who are you?", the man asked.

The man asked who


"Who are you?", the man asked.

The man asked who you are.


"Who are you?", the man asked.

YES/NO QUESTIONS
• Same procedure as in wh- questions, but
instead of wh- word we write IF or WHETHER.

"Is she your daughter?", Paulie asked.


Paulie asked IF/WHETHER she was my daughter.
"Will Tom go abroad next summer?",
Jerry asked.
"Will Tom go abroad next summer?",
