1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

The organization I would like to study for the remainder of the course would be Spotify.
Sptofy is a digital music and podcast platform that hosts millions of songs from across the
world. While Spotify was not the first streaming service, it launched in the United States with
over 10 million European subscribers, quickly gaining new members. Over the past ten years,
Spotify has looked to expand its catalogue as well as include podcasts on their platform.
Currently Spotify and Apple Music have the most users with Apple Music ~2 million users
ahead.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

My role in the organization is an external one. I am a customer that pays for the premium
version of Spotify’s service. As a customer, I feel as though the company is constantly
adding features to the program and the service is getting better. While there are gripes I
have with the service, like how the app runs worse on Apple phones, I feel as though on
the whole the service is becoming more usable for consumers.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

The situation I see is the competition between Apple Music and Spotify. Both companies
want to come out on top as the best received streaming platform. This is evident through
the innovations in the technology that both companies are implementing to get an edge on
their competitor. These include Apple Music’s high streaming quality and Spotify’s

 recent addition of lyrics to their songs. I feel as though the competition is great for
consumers in this industry.
