Habit Two: Begin with the End in Mind

“Have a Plan”
First Grade

- Have students brainstorm goals that they would like to

accomplish next year as a second grader. They can be school
related, but they don’t have to be. “What would you like to
accomplish next year?” “How do you plan to achieve your
goals?”

- Explain that you must have a plan to achieve your goals.

o Step One: What is your goal?

o Step Two: What baby steps can you take at the beginning
of the year to help achieve your goal?

o Step Three: Who can help you along the way to reach your
goal?

o Step Four: Now that you have met your goal, what can you
do to exceed it?

My Goal Pyramid

Directions: Give students their Goal Pyramid (document name pdf

Habit Two 1st activity) and ask them to fill in the answers to the steps
at each level and draw symbols or pictures that will help them to
visually identify each step of their goal. Students can color their goal
sheet if they like. Have them leave Step Four open. They can look back
at these goal pyramids the next year and decide how to set their goals
higher for Third Grade.
