Where Tigers need support:

Academics
English Language Learners, a growing student
population comprising 10.1% of the current
student body, are in need of additional
academic support in ELA and mathematics at
MacArthur Fundamental. Based on local
assessment results for 2020-2021 (CAASPP
assessment suspended in 2020-2021due to the
COVID-19 pandemic), just 9.28% of English
language learners were at or above grade level
in ELA and just 4.3% at or above grade level in
mathematics. This is consistent with CAASPP
assessment results from previous years with
68.25% of English Language Learners not
meeting level one proficiency in ELA and 82.54%
not meeting level one proficiency in
mathematics in 2018-2019.
Attendance
Chronic absenteeism was on the rise at MacArthur
Fundamental leading into the COVID-19 pandemic
(chronic absenteeism data was not collected for the 2019-
2020 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic). The
2020-2021 School Accountability Report Card (SARC)
demonstrates a decrease in chronic absenteeism at
MacArthur Fundamental from 3.5% in 2018-2019 to 2.0%
school-wide in 2020-2021. However, COVID-19 safety
protocols including quarantine mandates for both SAUSD COVID-19 safety protocols (partial):
infected and/or exposed students placed many students
out of school for up to 10 days at a time (pending the
circumstances), with some put on quarantine more than
twice in a single month. Despite the downward trend in
chronic absenteeism, COVID-19 related absences
continue to present a significant challenge tin keeping
students engaged and on schedule with instruction in
core subjects.

Behavior
The suspension rate across all students at
MacArthur Fundamental has been on a steady
decline from 4.3% in 2016-2017 to 2% in 2019-
2020. However, offenses involving drugs account
for the majority of both suspensions and
expulsions, followed closely by violence without
injury. The data highlights an opportunity for
intervention to address drug use and anger
management and/or conflict mediation among
MacArthur students.

Minute Meetings - In the student's words:

As part of MacArthur Fundamental Intermediate's Things at Home Organization
comprehensive school counseling program, 3.2% 9.7%
school counselors conducted "minute meetings"
with all students at the beginning of the Spring
2022 semester to identify areas of need as
perceived by students. The minute meetings were Homework
Getting Better Grades
successful in identifying key areas in which 18%
24.4%
students desire additional support. The school
counseling team can develop strategic tier one
and tier two interventions over the course of the
semester to provide students with resources and
