LESSON 5

TRAINING

1. In order to maximize learning, how will you design a training session?

Training personnel is vital in obtaining the company’s goals and objectives because it
helps the company to make its operations more effective and efficient. In addition, it also
improves the quality of the company’s products and services to satisfy its customers. To make
the training successful, the company should design its session in an effective way that is suitable
in the nature and condition of the company. There are three considerations to maximize the
learning of the employee in the training, these are training goals/outcomes, training methods, and
training budgets.

The company should design its training session based on the target training outcomes
because it will be more efficient and effective for the company in improving its operations. There
are five categories of training outcomes, cognitive, skill-based, affective, results, and return on
investment. In identifying the goals of the training, the company could set the activities that
could help in improving the specific skills. For example, if the company trains the employee to
improve their skills in farming the plants, the company could set the activities, like presenting
timely and accurate information about farming. In this way, it would likely improve their skills
and would affect the quality of their work.

In choosing the methods, the company should pick the methods that are suitable for the
job because it would help the company to have an effective training session. In the given
example about farming, the company could choose a presentation method that will show the
details about the farming or hand-on methods since it is a skill-based outcome. They could also
mix the methods to have more effective training, if possible. If the methods used do not suit the
nature of the job, the training would be less effective.

Lastly, training budgets should also be a worry in the training planning because it would
affect the tools that will be used in the training sessions. The training budget is mostly controlled
by the upper management. Thus, the company should allocate the funds to the training to have
more effective operations in the company. In the given example about farming, if the company
has more budget, they can do both of the methods mentioned. However, if the company allocates
only a limited budget for training, the company should choose hands-on methods since the
expected outcome is based on the skills.

Overall, the company should consider all of the factors not only limited to the mentioned
factors. It would help the company determine if the training design of their sessions is effective
and would affect the company’s operation or not. If the training session would not be effective,
the company should redesign its training session.
