Background/Description:
Recently it was discovered that the cable that should link the alternator star point to the
frame of the below mentioned generating sets had not been fitted during manufacture.
This omission had not been discovered during test or final inspection and products have
been shipped and distributed with this defect.
Potential Effects
This defect has the potential to increase the risk of electrical hazards throughout the
electrical system.
This issue was identified in particular batch of the QSL9 series gensets shipped recently.
Corrective Actions:
Following our Engineering review, we advise you follow the corrective action below to
The modification will ensure effective earthing of the electrical system neutral.
This modification has been implemented on plant from FGSN: G15I801283 dated
01/07 /2015. (genset model C275D5)
There were total 353 gensets available at site or at distributor end and needed immediate
attention to correct the earth link connection as per the below reccomendation. Affected
batch of genset details as below:
1.Before carrying out this modification, genset Logout Tagout procedure must be followed
and ensure you have the correct PPE as per normal safety procedure.
2. Open the top cover of alternator using 10mm ring / double end spanner.
4. Retighten the Bolt at same location without earth link using 17 mm spanner and torque
reccommended 26Nm.
5. Remove the nut using 19 mm spanner and Relocate the Earth cable to alternator studs
as shown and tighten the Earth cable using 19mm spanner and torque reccomended 26Nm
7.Remove the tools and clean the alternator inside before closing the alternator cover.
8.Remove the LOTO after ensured the correct fitment of earth link and allow the genset for
regular operation.
