Issue
Inadequate torque applied to circuit breaker (CB) joints at factory. This may lead to higher
resistance in the current carrying
path, resulting in thermal damage on circuit breaker line poles,
which in turn can cause damage to neighboring components
in the control panel.
Symptom:
Loose power cable joints at line connections
Loose cable connector joints at line connections

Resolution
Re-torque circuit breaker connections as part of periodic maintenance. For more instructions, refer
to Service Instructions
section.
Service Instructions
This check needs to be performed during the next periodic maintenance schedule as part of
“Check Circuit Breaker for loose
connections – every 500 hours” (refer to Table 4 of Service
manuals, GLN- A052F957, A052F920).
Safely shut down and lock-out tag-out (LOTO) generator set according to LOTO procedures and
guidelines.
Make sure that the generator set is in OFF position and it is de-energized, electrically and
mechanically.
1. Open the control panel and access the circuit breaker. Part number (PN) of circuit breaker for
the various models of generator
set are listed in Table 1.

Figure 2, 2-cable connector - remove the top and bottom Allen screws and lift the power cables
4. Inside the bottom terminal of 2-cable connector, locate the Allen screw that holds the cable
connector to the circuit breaker.
Using manual torque wrench and H 5/16” Allen socket, torque to
37 Nm. Refer to Figure 3. Cross-verify the torque. Mark it
with yellow torque-mark to show that it
has been torqued.
Note
: If the 2-cable connectors are damaged, they can be ordered. Cummins part
number for 3 pole connectors is 0320-2119-01 and
the part number for 4 pole
connectors is 0320-2119-02.

5. Reinsert the power cable/s correctly. After reinserting, using manual torque wrench and H 5/16”
Allen socket, torque the
top and bottom Allen screws to 31 Nm. Refer to Figure 4. Cross-verify the
torque. Mark it with yellow-mark to show that it
has been torqued. Refer to Figure 5.
Figure 4, After reinserting the power cables correctly, torque the top and bottom Allen screws to
31 Nm
Figure 5, Yellow torque-mark post torque application on Allen screws for power cables
6. Repeat steps 3, 4, 5 above for all the phases on the line connection side.
Note
: Report any issues found with the torqueing to your primary/regional service
engineering contact.
