Teaching Points : Teaching / Learning Activities
MAP SCALE:
Tr. Shows the picture of building with their actual
• In a map scale it is height and the height of building in photographs and
asks the students to fill the table:
essential to co-relate the
distance between two
points on a map and the
actual distance between
these two points on the
ground. The ratio of the
map distance to the
ground is MAP SCALE.
• This facilitates map
reading and helps in
understanding the • Students answers the ratio and from the above
distance on the ground. table st. realized the difference between the
actual height and the height in the photograph.
• Also realized that in the photograph everyone’s
height has decreased in the same proportion.
height as per photograph
• Ratio =
actual height of the building
• The same principle is applicable in the case of
MAP SCALE
Tr. Asks the st. to solve the following question:
• The actual distance between two cities Mumbai
and Ahmedabad is 500km.
• The distance on map is 5cms.
• Find the map scale.
Answer:
distance on a map
• Map scale =
actual distance
5
• = = 1:100
500
• The scale of map is 1cm= 100km.
1. verbal scale: Tr. Shows picture of map with map scale and asks the
following questions:
• A verbal scale is one in which
distances are expressed with
the use of words indicating
measurements.
• E.g. if the scale is 1
cm=60km.
• The cm is the unit of distance
on the map and km, the unit
of distance on the round.
Closure :
So, students we studied about what is map scale and how it is used.
• Please note down the points.
• In the coming lecture we will be study about importance of graphical scale.
Testing Procedure :
Tr. Gives quizzes link and asks st. to play the quiz
Assignment
With the help of google maps find the distance between Mumbai and your village.
Represent all the three method of map scale on paper.
When it comes to teaching, I get excited and motivated to teach the young minds. When the lecture
began, I had done sound conversation with the students.
Students were active throughout the class, as this was lecture cum discussion method.
I encouraged passive students to answer my questions by giving them hints and appreciating them.
Altogether, the lecture ended on time.
