Governor Christie in Favor of Smoking on Family Beaches

Reges Resort takes a stand against Governor Christie.

WILDWOOD CREST, NJ- April 12, 2022- New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has vetoed
the state legislature that bans smoking on beaches, waterfronts, and public parks. Smoke-free air
is a social justice issue. Any nonsmokers can find themselves exposed to secondhand smoke,
and several groups of people are at risk for health complications.

“Reges Oceanfront Resort strives to make sure every family that visits us stays safe and has the
best experience possible,” stated Anthony Mollica, President and General Manager of Reges
Oceanfront Resort.

With that being said, Reges Oceanfront Resort will no longer tolerate smoking on our private
beaches. We strive to create a safe and clean environment for all families; eliminating smoking
only keeps the promise made to our loyal customers. Disappointed in the decision made by
Governor Christie, we will take the matter of public health into our own hands.

Smoking, vaping, and exposure to secondhand smoke and aerosols can increase the risks
associated with COVID-19 transmission. Removing face coverings to smoke or vape indoors
undermines the proven benefit of face coverings and increases the risk of transmitting or inhaling
COVID-19 via infectious respiratory droplets, uncovered coughs, and increased touching of
faces.

Studies suggest that sitting 3 feet away from a smoker outdoors can expose you to the same level
of secondhand smoke as sitting indoors with a smoker. Secondhand smoke can trigger asthma
attacks, increase the risk of blood clots, and hurt blood vessels.

New York has recently passed the Smoke-Free Air Act. The new law will reduce people's
exposure to secondhand smoke outdoors. The new law will be enforced mainly by New Yorkers
themselves. We expect New Yorkers to ask people to follow the law and stop smoking. Similar
laws have worked in other places, including Chicago and Los Angeles. However, people who
violate the new law could receive a $50 ticket.
