Discussion Questions:
1) How does Twain’s sentence structure help to undercut or undermine previous statements?
Twain’s sentence structure is introducing an idea, and then placing a comma and stating the
opposite of that idea right after. Twain used sarcasm to employ his ideas.
2) What other strategies does Twain employ for his purpose? What is his purpose?
The strategy he used in this passage is sarcastic language. His purpose is to expose the
arrogance and issues that children have with authority figures.
