WELCOME TO ONSHORE/OFFSHORE HANDLING SYSTEM

In the offshore work environment, “Injuries from handling,

lifting or carrying” is one the most common type of accident.
The successful management of this area of risk can be
achieved through the introduction of the Onshore/Offshore
Handling Systems range. Uniquely designed they are a
critical addition to the success of your safety policy.

Onshore/Offshore Handling Systems are manufacturers of

innovative, high quality, durable safety solutions to the
onshore/offshore Oil and Gas industry. These tools have
been designed to target the reduction of hand and finger
injuries associated with the positioning and movement of
deck cargo and drilling supplies. Providing a range of safety
handling products can help you achieve a zero incidence
workplace. Our tools provide the power to enforce “Hands
Free Working” by putting the solution in your people’s hands.

11
HANDS FREE LIFTING OBJECTIVES
To eliminate hand and finger injuries by removing them from the energy
source as follows :
 To eliminate caught-between, struck-by and struck-against incidents
Untuk mencegah bagian tubuh personil terjepit diantara beban, terbentur
ataupun insiden lainnya.
 To identify safer methods of handling suspended loads and the use of
lifting apparatus through:
• engineering
• work practices and systems
• tools
 To use existing facility processes (e.g. JSA and/or HIRA processes)

12
WHY HANDS FREE?
• After years of decline, injury frequency rates have leveled off
Setelah bertahun-tahun mengalami penurunan, grafik tingkat frekuensi cedera secara
konstan mendatar.
• New approaches required to eliminate residual injuries
Dibutuhkan pendekatan baru untuk mengurangi potensi cidera. Dimana cidera tangan
mayoritas tercatat sebagai cidera yang lebih serius.
• Hand injuries represent about 1/2 of all injuries. Hand injuries represent the majority
of more serious, recordable, injuries
• Caught between and crush incidents can be fatal
• Huge amount of lifts offshore = huge risk exposure ...in a dynamic environment due
to rig movement; wind effects (etc) and confined areas
Tingginya tingkat operasi pengangkatan (khususnya di lepas pantai) = meningkatnya
resiko
Eliminating handling of suspended loads is a step change to Zero Harm

"If you always do what you've always done,

you'll always get what you've always got.”

13
WHAT IS HANDS FREE LIFTING ?
Personnel not touching a load (with any part of their body) that is connected
to a mechanical lifting device. That is …as the load is being lifted or before
the load is properly set down and all potential energy is released.

THE EVOLUTION OF HANDS FREE LIFTING

16
A CHANGE ... EMOTIONAL

Change means different things to different people!

• Challenge : winning commitment of rig leaders

Tantangan : Komitmen memenangkan untuk menjadi pemimpin rig

• Challenge : resisting strong push back from crews

• Challenge : overcoming deeply engrained behaviors

Tantangan : mengatasi perilaku sangat berurat berakar

• Challenge : building a hands free culture on the rig

Tantangan : membangun budaya bebas tangan di rig

17
A CHANGE ...TO THE EQUIPMENT

18
SUPPORTIVE STRATEGIES (EXAMPLES)
Discuss hands free initiative with drilling
contractor early (buy-in); present to crews at
campaign inductions

 Ban polka dot gloves - only using impact

type gloves
 Mandate that gloves are to be worn at all
times in the workplace
 Regular discussion point at pre-tour and
safety meetings
 Ensuring loads packed securely, all lifting
equipment checked and certified (and
inspected); QAQC processes
 Hand and finger preservation campaigns
 Cameras on the crane booms

 Active support by Drilling Contractor

and crew; Title Holder including
Supervisor’s and HSE coaches on the rig
