WELCOME TO ONSHORE/OFFSHORE HANDLING SYSTEM
11
HANDS FREE LIFTING OBJECTIVES
To eliminate hand and finger injuries by removing them from the energy
source as follows :
Untuk menghindari cidera tangan dan jari dengan cara menghindarinya dari
sumber energi (mis. listrik, terjepit, benturan beban dan lainnya)
To eliminate caught-between, struck-by and struck-against incidents
Untuk mencegah bagian tubuh personil terjepit diantara beban, terbentur
ataupun insiden lainnya.
To identify safer methods of handling suspended loads and the use of
lifting apparatus through:
Mengidentifikasi metode yang lebih aman dalam menangani beban yang
menggantung (suspended load) serta cara penggunaannya melalui:
• engineering
• work practices and systems
• tools
To use existing facility processes (e.g. JSA and/or HIRA processes)
12
WHY HANDS FREE?
• After years of decline, injury frequency rates have leveled off
Setelah bertahun-tahun mengalami penurunan, grafik tingkat frekuensi cedera secara
konstan mendatar.
• New approaches required to eliminate residual injuries
Dibutuhkan pendekatan baru untuk mengurangi potensi cidera. Dimana cidera tangan
mayoritas tercatat sebagai cidera yang lebih serius.
• Hand injuries represent about 1/2 of all injuries. Hand injuries represent the majority
of more serious, recordable, injuries
• Caught between and crush incidents can be fatal
Insiden terperangkap di antara benda dan terbentur beban dapat berakibat sangat fatal.
• Huge amount of lifts offshore = huge risk exposure ...in a dynamic environment due
to rig movement; wind effects (etc) and confined areas
Tingginya tingkat operasi pengangkatan (khususnya di lepas pantai) = meningkatnya
resiko
Eliminating handling of suspended loads is a step change to Zero Harm
13
WHAT IS HANDS FREE LIFTING ?
Personnel not touching a load (with any part of their body) that is connected
to a mechanical lifting device. That is …as the load is being lifted or before
the load is properly set down and all potential energy is released.

01). GENERAL CARGO HANDLING TOOL
General Description:
The unique and clever design of this tool takes into account the challenges faced
by deck crew personnel and it provides a range of functions to address the
associated risks.
Application:
For use by deck crews to help with the positioning of various deck cargos ranging
from containers, open ended half height baskets and enclosed power packs.
Features:
Angled U-shaped attachment that facilitates the 4” inch box iron frames of open
baskets and power packs. Its unique angled design acts as a locking mechanism
providing the handler with maximum control over the suspended load. V shaped
attachment engages with the corner of containers and baskets which allows a
suspended load to be stabilised by exerting a pushing action. Tag line retrieving
hook. Available in two different lengths: sizes 1300mm and 1500mm. Attachments
in hi-visibility colour. Heavy duty aluminium staff. Available with enclosed hand
grip or non-slip rubber hand grip models Fitted with fully replaceable non-slip, low
compression rubber grommets

02). DRILL PIPE CASING TOOL
General Description:
The movement of large single pipes or bundles of drill pipe can be better controlled with the
use of this tool. Its arc shape profile is ideally suited to the movement of larger piping while
allowing the handler to be at a safe distance. The tool is also fitted with a tag line retrieving
hook. An extremely effective tool for promoting hands free policy in difficult operations such
as casing jobs and bringing on of drill pipe.
Application:
For use by deck crews and drill floor crews in the movement of large pipes and bundles of
drill pipe.
Features:
An arc profile attachment designed to facilitate larger pipe or bundles of pipe. This device
provides the handler with more confidence in controlling a larger load and is especially
effective when used in conjunction with taglines. Tag line retrieving hook. Available in two
different lengths:sizes 1200mm and 1500mm
Attachments in hi-visibility colour. Heavy duty aluminium staff. Available with enclosed hand
grip or non-slip rubber hand grip models. Fitted with fully replaceable non-slip, low
compression rubber grommets

03). DRILL PIPE CONNECTION GUIDE
General Description:
The patented design of this unique tool finally provides companies with a solution to this
notoriously hazardous activity by supplying a solution that removes the need for hand to
pipe contact while still allowing precision and control. It allows the handlers to keep
hands clear of potential pinch point areas. It gives the driller a better overall visual of the
connection, thus reducing the possibility of tread damage. The inner radius of the devise
is fitted with a rubber seal that is used for the wipe down of drilling fluid when pulling out
of the hole. When used correctly and in conjunction with other forms of PPE, this tool can
also greatly reduce the handlers exposure to harmful drilling fluids.
Application:
For exclusive use on the drill floor, this two-part tool is operated by two personnel in the
make-up of drill pipe.
Features:
This tool consists of two identical parts that clamp around drill pipe when operated by two
personnel. This provides maximum stability of the drill stand when engaging with the
stand set in the rotary slips. Handle design allows the handlers to be clear of pinch points
and harmful drilling fluids. Fitted with chemical resistant, extra strong rubber. Each part
fitted with wrist lanyards to reduce any risk of dropping the tool down the hole while also
fitted with quick disconnect device to prevent any risks to personnel limbs associated with
rotating equipment.

04). DRILL PIPE HANDLING TOOL
General Description:
The movement of suspended drill pipe is a high risk area. The Pipe Handling Tool
complements the use of tag lines by providing exceptional control of the load and
flexibility to the handler in the movement and landing of up to 5⅞ inch pipe. Provides
excellent support in confined space usage.
Application:
For use by deck crews and drill floor crews in the movement of large pipes and bundles
of drill pipe. Can also be used for the safe handling of bulk hoses and the installation and
removal of BOP service lines.
Features:
A double U shaped attachment, one forward facing and one rear facing used to facilitate
the stabilisation of a suspended drill pipe up to 5⅞ inches. For use in movement of drill
pipe in a vertical or horizontal position, allowing easy exchange from a push / pull
function, giving the user maximum control over the load. Tag line retrieval capability.
Available in two different lengths; 1200mm, 1500mm. Attachments in hi-visibility colour.

05). DRILL PIPE SET BACK TOOL
General Description:
The Drill Pipe Set Back Tool allows drill pipe to be safely handled and positioned in the
set back area, providing maximum protection to personnel while retaining maximum
control and flexibility. Not only does this devise mitigate the risk of hand injuries but it
also keeps the handler’s feet clear of the set back area when landing pipe in the vertical
stored position. This Hands Free approach also removes the risk of hazardous drilling
fluids coming into contact with handler’s skin.
Application:
For use by drill crew for the positioning and storage of drill pipe in the set back area of
the drill floor.
Features:
A double U shaped attachment, one forward facing and one rear facing to facilitate the
stabilisation of a suspended drill pipe of up to 5⅞ inches in a vertical position. Allowing
easy exchange from a push / pull function, giving the user maximum control over the
load. A shoulder attachment that allows the handler the extra leverage that is required to
position the pipe in the vertical position, whilst keeping him at a safe distance from the
landing area. Tag line retrieving hook. Available in two different lengths: sizes 1200mm
and 1500mm.Attachments in hi-visibility colour.Heavy duty aluminium staff Non-slip,
