What’s More
Activity 2: Assemblage activity

As seen in the collage I’ve made, specific images and items about media and culture are
included in it because those have part in my life since those have a replication in my life stories.
Images and elements of culture have been appropriated commonly and recognizable works of art,
well known literature, and easily accessible images from the media.

The images above have a replication and part on the way I live. There’s an art in culture. Art
replication is known as an enhanced digital reproduction that is a beautiful and expertly-executed
stand-in for the original work. In life, the mistake is the art and the lesson is the replication in order to
make an execution for a better life.

What I Have Learned

Activity 4: Application

1. Compared to other monument, the Rizal monument which can be found at Tuguegarao City features a
column made of tobacco leaves, the produce of Cagayan during the Spanish regime and the statue of four
women which represent the four cardinal virtues.
2. The relationship behind the monument of Rizal to surrounding spaces and other structures within the space of
the area is that the monument reflects both the values and the power structure of that community. It was
formerly occupied by a monument in honor of Fr. Antonio Lobato de Santo Tomás, OP (b. 1724- d. March 11,
1794), the man behind the present town plan of Tuguegarao. It was inaugurated on August 17, 1918 by then
Cagayan Governor Honorio Lasam, a contemporary of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Ateneo Municipal. Monuments
are built forms erected to confer dominant meanings on space.
3. The monument depicts Rizal in an overcoat holding a book, that has the title "NOLI ME TÁNGERE"
inscribed. Rizal has only a serious facial expression which was shown at the monument.
4. As I can see, the monument is both self-contained and the subject is somehow oriented to people and
space. As people lay their eyes into the monument, the first thing that they’ll notice is the figure of Rizal.
The image projects attribution to commemorate the executed Filipino nationalist, José Rizal. The features
and elements around the monument helped to make it more meaningful.

What I Can Do
Activity 5: Interact with an artwork of contemporary artists.

Cecily Brown, The Girl Who Had Everything, 1998

Cecily Brown is a British artist noted for her sumptuous and highly textured modern artworks.
Her painting is a hybrid of baroque masters and abstract expressionism. Color and texture are
combined with sexually provocative characters and biomorphic shapes that contrast with the abstract
swirls that dominate her works. The artist pushes the observer to investigate the paintings in depth by
only hinting to shapes rather than providing a definite portrayal, from which the sexual visions
emerge.

Contemporary art is known to embody five elements and principles which are appropriation,
performance art, space, hybridity, and technology art. As shown in the artwork above, many patterns
and colors are merged to get the actual meaning of the artwork. The picture has a profound message
that can only be understood by paying close attention to all of its nuances. Overall, the utilization of
uncommon materials, patterns, and colors resulted in an outstanding piece of artwork.
