rheostat, adjustable resistor

used in applications that
require the adjustment of
current or the varying of
Rheostat resistance in an electric circuit.
The rheostat can adjust
generator characteristics, dim
lights, and start or control the
speed of motors.

A capacitor is an integral
component of electrical
equipment and is thus, almost
always found in an electronic
Capacitor circuit. The primary purpose of
capacitors is to store
electrostatic energy in an
electric field and where
possible, to supply this energy
to the circuit.
Inductors are typically used
as energy storage devices in
switched-mode power devices
to produce DC current. The
inductor, which stores energy,
Inductor supplies energy to the circuit to
maintain current flow during
“off” switching periods, thus
enabling topographies where
output voltage exceeds input
voltage.

Photo-resistors, also known as

light dependent resistors
(LDR), are light sensitive
Light Dependent devices most often used to
Resistor (LDR) indicate the presence or
absence of light, or to measure
the light intensity

Thermistors are thermally

sensitive resistors whose prime
function is to exhibit a large,
Thermistor predictable and precise change
in electrical resistance when
subjected to a corresponding
change in body temperature.

A diode is a semiconductor
device that essentially acts as a
one-way switch for current. It
Diode allows current to flow easily in
one direction, but severely
restricts current from flowing in
the opposite direction.

A transistor is a semiconductor
device used to amplify or
switch electrical signals and
power. The transistor is one of
Transistor the basic building blocks of
modern electronics. It is
composed of semiconductor
material, usually with at least
three terminals for connection
to an electronic circuit.

galvanometer, instrument
for measuring a small electrical
Galvanometer current or a function of the
current by deflection of a moving
coil. The deflection is a
mechanical rotation derived from
forces resulting from the current.

ohmmeter, instrument
for measuring electrical
resistance, which is expressed in
Ohmmeter ohms. In the simplest
ohmmeters, the resistance to be
measured may be connected to
the instrument in parallel or in
series.

voltmeter, instrument
that measures voltages of either
direct or alternating electric
current on a scale usually
Voltmeter graduated in volts, millivolts
(0.001 volt), or kilo-volts (1,000
volts). Many voltmeters are
digital, giving readings as
numerical displays.

ammeter, instrument
for measuring either direct or
alternating electric current, in
amperes. An ammeter can
measure a wide range of current
Ammeter values because at high values
only a small portion of the current
is directed through the meter
mechanism; a shunt in parallel
with the meter carries the major
portion.

A clamp meter is a clothespin-

shaped instrument that can be
clamped around a live wire in
order to measure the current it's
Clamp meter carrying. As a measurement
principle, clamp meters detect
the magnetic field emitted by
current flowing in a wire in order
to measure the current value.

The watt-meter is an instrument

for measuring the electric active
power (or the average of the rate
of flow of electrical energy) in
watts of any given circuit.
Wattmeter Electromagnetic watt-meters are
used for measurement of utility
frequency and audio frequency
power; other types are required
for radio frequency
measurements.

A battery is a device that stores

chemical energy and converts it
to electrical energy. The chemical
reactions in a battery involve the
flow of electrons from one
Battery
material (electrode) to another,
through an external circuit. The
flow of electrons provides an
electric current that can be used
to do work.

The main job of an AC/DC power

supply is to transform the
alternating current (AC) into a
stable direct current (DC)
voltage, which can then be used
DC Power Supply
to power different electrical
devices. Alternating current is
used to transport electric power
all across the electric grid, from
generators to end users.

Oscilloscopes (or scopes) test

and display voltage signals as
wave forms, visual
representations of the variation of
voltage over time. The signals
Oscilloscope are plotted on a graph, which
shows how the signal changes.
The vertical (Y) access
represents the voltage
measurement and the horizontal
(X) axis represents time.

According to the NEC, the

purpose of connecting an
electrical system to the physical
Ground ground (earth) is to limit the
voltage imposed by lightning
events and contact with higher
voltage lines.

the procedures to run the software.
