A-Slip Lock
Application Introduction
■ Unidirectional flow control in single The A-slip lock is a slickline-retrievable
or dual completions anchor with cup-type seals used to

■ Anchors in tubing; no nipple
required Description and operation
■ Available in various materials During installation, the A-slip lock
and attached flow control device are
made up to the appropriate A running
tool and lowered into the tubing using
standard slickline methods. When the
desired depth is reached, a rapid
upward pull on the slickline moves
the tapered body under the slips.
Upward jarring secures the slip lock
firmly against the tubing wall. Flowing
the well will energize the cup-type
seals against the tubing wall.
Before removing the A-slip lock,
pressure must be equalized across the
lock assembly. Downward jarring with
the appropriate J-series pulling tool
drives the tapered body from beneath
the slips. The A-slip lock can then be
slowly pulled from the well.
Application Introduction

■ Anchors in most common tubing stop, the appropriate JD-series pulling
sizes and weights tool and the attached stop are lowered
into the tubing string using standard
slickline methods. When the desired
setting depth is reached, rapid down-
ward movement sets the stop. The
tubing stop body, which contains the
slip cone, is driven tightly behind the
slips by heavy downward jarring.
When removing the A-series tubing
stop, upward jarring with the appro-
priate JD-series pulling tool causes
the slips to release and allows the tub-
ing stop to be pulled to the surface.

Introduction
Specialized retrieving heads are used
to run and retrieve the OEJ and OP
expansion joints. While a blank over-
shot is furnished with the standard
expansion joint, it is only used for run-
ning. For retrieving, the blank over-
shot must be sheared, the tubing
string removed from the well, and a
retrieving head installed on the over-
shot member of the expansion joint.
A tubing string or work string con-
nected to a retrieving head can then

This type of safety joint provides a
means of separating the production
tubing above or below a packer if nec-
essary. This is a fully locked safety
joint that allows full tubing torque to
be applied through the joint without
loading the shear screws.
The tension-type safety joint is con-
nected with a set of shear screws,
which are easily added or removed in
the field to adjust the shear value to
match completion requirements.

Description and operation
The perforated production tube, some-

for unrestricted flow of oil or gas. The
use of this tool enhances the accuracy
and reliability of acquired downhole
production data, which otherwise
would be distorted due to flow restric-
tions in the locking device that suspends
pressure and temperature gauges.
